We've been hearing a lot about Nosferatu lately with the new remake having just come out. If you've been checking out the 1920s original film, you may also enjoy The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, arguably the first ever horror film! red-pens-and-playwriting.ghost.io/literary-fir... #Horror #HorrorFilms

The real answer is neither. Those are their hands. And the flappy things up by their shoulders are their ears. Trust me, I did bology in school.

A pox damn you, you muddy rascal

Did you take your meds? How many times though? #chronicillnessmemes #mentalhealthmemes

If you're looking to transition your cat to indoor-only due to H1N1, great! There are many other benefits, too. But it may not go well if you just shut them in and call it a day, you need to commit to giving them an enriched indoor environment with lots of play. felineengineering.com/blog/indoor-...

Listen. This is important. There’s measles going around. Measles is the one and only thing (that we know of) that can erase your immune memory. It causes immune amnesia. You have to rebuild all your immunity. Go to your doc and get your measles antibodies checked. You do not want immune amnesia.

Just published probably my most fun-ever Wikipedia article: the Christchurch Seagull pit. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christc...

Sometimes I look at my writing friends and think god, they're so smart. The way they see the world and how they filter that into beautiful art that throw challenge back into the world makes me so damn proud to know them. If I could write something half as good as them, I'll be happy.

Qtopia and Creative Writing at UC are putting on a poetry night for pride! Tickets are available now - koha entry, with proceeds going to support Qtopia's mahi. I've just written a fuckin banger piece about puberty blocker consultations so I reckon you defs wanna come

If you want to stand up to fascists, wear a mask. It’s one of the simplest and easiest things you can do to resist. It protects your health, while also protecting disabled and marginalized people who are in grave danger from fascist policies.

Such a great concept. No need to set a minimum wage. Just make the maximum wage for any company a multiple of whatever they pay their entry-level workers. If CEOs want more money, they have to pay their people more.

We have a vaccine that can prevent cancer! It's a fucking miracle and more people should talk about it! Please get the HPV vaccine series if you haven't already, the age limit is 45 now

My toxic trait? Believing that one good night of sleep will fix me.

I neither have the capacity for a full-time role nor live in a suitable time zone, but some of y'all might fit the bill?

A good thread to check out!

One of the core beliefs I've adopted in the last few years is that we generally underrate how goofy and stupid the American past was and that being attentive to that helps us see continuities with the present. It's actually not obvious we live in dumber times. Every day tests this belief anew.

This! If you can switch from Whole Foods to a different grocery store and buy your books from bookshop.org instead of Amazon, that’s still a big step even if you feel tied to Amazon for other items. If everyone divested 30% that’s more than if a few people divest 100%.

Word of the Day is ‘ingordigiousness’ (18th century): extreme greed at the expense of principles.

my student: the ides of March are coming up me: my student: the Senate has the chance to do the funniest thing possible, that’s all I’m saying

Arts Access Aotearoa is calling for applications to its Whakahoa Kaitoi Whanaketanga Creative New Zealand Artist Fellowship 2025, valued at $10,000, supporting a Deaf or disabled artist to undertake a project that develops their creative practice.

A good partner does not have to share all your hobbies, but they are the person who loves your enthusiasm, who encourages your niche passions even when they don’t understand them. Their greatest joy is watching you do what brings you joy.

You can learn A LOT from other people's experiences with writing and what did work for them. It often times introduces ideas that you wouldn't have & and can help you out of a bind. You're not any less of a writer if their advice doesn't work for you. You're not any less of a writer if it does.

Manager: "What's this milestone 'Living on a prayer' ?" Me: "That's the documentation deliverable." Manager: "What's the status of that?" Me: "We're halfway there" Manager: "Why is progress so slow?" Me: "You fired Tommy" Manager: "So?" Me: "Tommy used to work on the docs"

I was on Smithsonian’s “There’s More to That” talking about that subject I just keep getting questions about dinosaur sex

I get that not everyone is plugged into the news but yeah, please try to move to another platform if you can. It's just going to be more and more Nazis and you on there. And your subs are paying for more Nazis.

I dont wanna be rich, I'd just like to have enough money to be able to comfortably make impulsive and/or unwise financial decisions every so often, ya know?

Here’s a poem called ‘Pet Peeve’.

"anarcho-communist?" no you misheard me, I'm an anachronistic communist, I believe private property is theft but also think we shouldn't have been so quick to abandon the longbow

Unsolicited writing advice, no. #103876: Never worry about whether what you write "matters." It matters because you do. And one day, someone else may read it and understand that they matter, too. This is how we build a world, one connection at a time.

If you need to write a section because it’s necessary for the plot, and you can’t figure out a way to make it good or interesting, just make it short. Best case, you make it better in another draft. Worst case, you’ve kept the necessary but uninteresting bit short enough to not annoy the reader.

YESSSS I love what Bob Ross said "talent is pursued interest! Anything you can practice you can do." Love will carry you when nothing else will. That fun is vital.
