FM Towns - The 'Hypermedia Computer' The FM stands for Fujistu Micro rather than anything to do with sound (as I once thought it might). Fujitsu had a tradition of code-naming PC projects after Nobel Prize-winning physicists, so the Towns part refers to Charles Townes.

During the early 80s, a teacher brought home an electronic word processor to his Dodleston, Cheshire cottage, only to find it connecting to a sprit from the 1540s! It disclosed names and locations unknown at the time, but accurate. The story made the national press but is largely forgotten now.
