I see you’re also listening to XPN. I like the new Doves release - that’s grown on me pretty quickly.

I think it was Jon Savage who said that the first punk song was “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” (Elton/Kiki Dee) because it inspired a bunch of artists to do the exact opposite.

An unrelated point that occurred to me on a plane: AU needs to make the Phil never actually says “Sussudio” the Bogart never actually says “Play it again, Sam” of the 2020s.

This was excellent as expected. One nit to pick: I would add the great Jeff Porcaro to the list of immediately recognizable 80s drummers. Also, this may be my favorite thing written about the Zeppelin set at Live Aid (RIP TOD).

Imagine if they would have done that with Draymond on the other side.

Didn’t realize that. That’s just cruel (but it makes your Duke ‘78 and Dave’s Picks 53 placement more impressive). I’m in the middle of my annual Dick’s Picks 4 (and related material) binge. Love packing 3 songs tightly into 90 minutes.

And AU @augetoffmygold.bsky.social - if you need someone to chat about Phish’s R&R HOF nomination, you know where to find me.

Definitely checking this one out tomorrow. No Jacket Required was the first tape I had to buy a second time because I literally wore out my first copy.

That’s a great one (and a great fact). Elvis had 2. I think Chuck Berry “Promised Land” may be my favorite.

That’s a great video! Know the song but don’t think I’ve seen that performance before.

“He Stopped Loving Her Today” isn’t even the saddest George Jones song (I’d go with “A Good Year For the Roses”). But man was Charlie Rich underrated.

My two cents: it’s good and bad. There are fewer barriers to entry than ever before. And a lot of good stuff does catch the right ears. But it’s also drinking from a firehouse and even those of us who try to find new stuff can only absorb so much.

It’s because my son bought me an autographed card of his at a card show yesterday. Good decisions beget good decisions.

If I were looking to lose a lot of games while still looking like I’m trying and while being entertaining, I think Ricky Council IV may be my first pick.

That’s the worst thing that Dave Silver has instituted. Need to get rid of that rule.
