Oh btw I look forward to the conflicts this spurs when neighboring jurisdictions have radically different sewage standards for their shared watershed.

In all seriousness I do think the tax structure is a major flaw of the program — the premiums are taken out of paycheck after tax, you can have federal tax withheld from the disbursements but not state tax, and unlike almost all other states that have PFL programs, NY considers it taxable income.

Also: Even if you have an employer who talks a big game about being supportive of families, when you tell them you’d like to take more time off and are entitled to do so by state law, you see really quickly if they’re telling the truth I believe the phrase used in my case was “paternity vacation”

Before Jan 5 I would have agreed with you but it’s very clearly working, growing in popularity, and the MTA is already bonding off the revenue She may surrender because of cowardice but I’m not sure she actually wants to kill it anymore

Congress could pass a law rescinding the plan and Trump could sign it. Trump could withhold certain types of federal $ from NY unless it kills the plan. But FHWA can’t just kill a duly enacted state program they already issued a ministerial approval for. (Hochul could also surrender in advance ofc)
