Major Erica Vandal served 14 years, deployed to Afghanistan, and earned a Bronze Star. She led with honor—and was forced out because she’s transgender. “I do not have a single derogatory mark on my record.” Trump didn’t care. Bigotry mattered more than battlefield service.

Remember the lie machine that cranked up before the 2003 Iraq War.

I had a wonderful time teaching a course on the Constitution, using Reacting to the Past Constitutional Convention game. Highlights: brilliant drunk speeches by Luther Martin, Alexander Hamilton duel (he lost), great speeches and debate throughout.

Yes, and reminder that ethnic cleansing is almost always genocidal.

Good read. Her name was Sophie Mousseau, and her story is worth remembering and contemplating.

When economics get dicey, I always wonder what @nelsonhist.bsky.social thinks. So I asked him to write for #AHAPerspectives about tariffs and financial panics. 🗃️

Navajo Code Talkers were instrumental in the United States and our allies winning World War II. Erasing their stories from military websites is a dishonor to their memories, our veterans, and beyond appalling. Indigenous history is American history and we must remember the heroes who served.

Exclusive: Navajo Code Talkers disappear from military websites after Trump DEI order

All the Trump people have is bigotry and all their supporters want is more bigotry.

Musk has now poured $8.3 million into buying the tie-breaking Wisconsin Supreme Court seat for Brad Schimel. That is vastly more than any other single donor—to eliminate a state-level check on his and Trump's power. Help us fight back and elect Susan Crawford: PeopleVMusk.com

Informative article by Van Gosse about petition signed by over 1,900 historians requesting AHA council to allow members to vote on scholasticide resolution. archive.ph/FR65F

Even historians who oppose the AHA resolution on Scholasticide should sign the petition to have a vote of the full AHA membership. The AHA Council did not provide a reason for vetoing rather than having a vote. The Council just declared the resolution violates the AHA mission without explaining why.

Watched Sugarcane over the weekend. Absolutely brilliant and worthy of all the acclaim.

Please read and sign this petition to the AHA Council, demanding a recision of their veto of the Resolution to Oppose Scholasticide and to put the resolution to AHA's membership! www.historiansforpeace.org/2025/02/08/p...

Does the Times regret its contributions to those attacks?

Remember that ethnic cleansing is a euphemism for genocide.

Now that Trump has reestablished the 1776 Commission, here's a link to a piece @karl-jacoby.bsky.social and I wrote a few years back when we dared to hope the Commission had found its rightful place in history's dustbin. www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1...

I live in Oregon. I guess this explains why there is no water coming out of my tap today.

Good to hear a Senator saying something useful. Happy to say he's one of my two Senators.
