Citizens are rising to the challenge. Demand a town hall with your representative. Congressional switchboard: (202) 224-3121

"the rise in gender traditionalism derives more from politics than it is does from gender" This is a rare good NYT op-Ed, which has gotten too much attention for the growing partisan rift on gender roles and too little on the nuanced interpretation of the data.

Could not agree more. The Prez & VP are shameful, embarrassing Putin puppets & a disgrace to our country. 🤮 #SlavaUkraine 🇺🇦

And to think we could have had a sane, serious government run by an intelligent person who would have acted in the best interests of Americans, and not Vladimir Putin.

European leaders are stepping forward to tonight to show their support for President Zelensky 👏

Given that the Trump people did nothing to induce Russia to end the war, it’s fair to conclude that the whole idea of pursuing peace was just a pretext to renew relations with Russia.

Democracies stand with Ukraine.

Wouldn't you like to see this in your state?

Tonight was Disgusting! Zelinski required to beg. Trump/Vance say he’s not sufficiently thankful. Ukraine aid held for ransom. Can you imagine calling an ambulance for your sick child. When it arrives the EMTs require you to sign over the mortgage on your house before they will render aid?

worth saying again that this was a bait and switch. if trump had openly announced he was running on allowing companies to discriminate against women and minorities he would not have won wapo.st/43aVQg1

a side issue that struck me while reporting on Indiana banning student IDs for voting: how freaking strict Indiana is in tossing ballots when you make an error! at the sole polling place on campus at IU Bloomington, 300 people cast provisional ballots in November... & every single one was rejected!

CALL TO ACTION: Call your representatives at (202) 224-3121 and ask what criteria they plan to use when “vetting” their constituents.

It's absolutely insane that Elon Musk and his wrecking crew are saying they're firing entire swaths of our government infrastructure and the press are just like "oh that's sad but what are you gonna do, guess they're fired." It is batshit crazypants, and it's being covered like normal policy choices

One way Trump plans to indefinitely hold onto power is by crushing competition. So, how do we preserve electoral competition? It takes more than just holding an election. Read and subscribe to the Entrenchment Agenda for the details: www.ifyoucankeepit.org/s/the-entren...

UPDATE: The charges against her have been dropped “in the interest of justice” (she bit one of the brownshirts that assaulted her) and the private security firm has lost their license to operate. I hope she sues them into oblivion.

NEW: A “survey of our niche audience for our niche audience” was the source for the claim that only 6% of federal employees are working full time in their offices. The number isn’t true. Why do administration and elected officials keep relying on it?

🚨If YOU live in 1 of these REPUBLICAN districts, these are the MOST vulnerable R's whose seats will be FLIPPED next year if they vote YES to cut Medicaid. Please CALL your representative the vote is TOMORROW & help SAVE this program. YOUR voice does matter and does make a DIFFERENCE. 202-224-3121.🚨

Kamala Harris delivers an inspiring and uplifting message as she accepts the prestigious Chairman's Award at the NAACP Image Awards. Her powerful words highlight her ongoing commitment to equality, justice, and progress. 🥰💙

Lost in some of the outrage over this is that Trump's pick is LITERALLY unqualified. The law says a Chairman has to have been a vice chair, a service chief or held a combatant command. Caine hasn't done any of those and I don't think he was even the senior service general at a combatant command.

America held hostage

Lots of good responses to this, including some really interesting writers in my inbox. Love that. Now how do we make it structural instead of just me in my spare time answering all these emails.

This should be an inspiration to all American Governors. I give you @jbpritzker.bsky.social's State of the State speech for 2025. It's worth a read. www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/c...

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA): “A program is not waste just because it doesn’t help the richest man in the world. It is not fraud just because he doesn’t like it."

United States support for Ukraine was never about securing mineral rights. Or providing security for money. It was about democracy and sovereignty. And a willingness to defend our allies and oppose our enemies. Trump is betraying Ukraine, but also our values. Our history and our legacy.

Hegseth says firing of top military lawyers was about making sure "they don't exist to be roadblocks to anything that happens."

El Capitan displays a massive American flag upside down—the traditional signal of distress or extreme emergency.

New, from me @theatlantic.com: *No, the federal government is not too big *It has real human capital needs *Firings are indiscriminate, weakening state capacity *Creating a toxic and politicized workplace is driving away dedicated employees www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Dear Dems. This is a reminder that Donald Trump rescinded the ethics rules preventing gifts to executive branch employees. Now would be a good time to propose legislation formalizing the prevention into a law Time to do things that make him react to you. apnews.com/article/trum...

When incompetence and mastery of bull-shitting conjoin the results are breathtaking.

This is really smart by @sanders.senate.gov Go to republican districts and push voters to pressure their republican reps. www.commondreams.org/news/bernie-...

“We fired all the guards at the bank so they’re not roadblocks to anything that happens.”

CNN plays a clip of Russian state TV praising Trump for being "in total alignment" with Putin

@newsjennifer.bsky.social on the gripping and impactful DOGE reporting by local news outlets: "It would be both ironic and so very American if the rich and powerful oligarchs were finally stopped by the underfunded newsrooms and working-class reporters." jenniferschulze.substack.com/p/local-news...

Hi All, just sent out my weekend update (free as always). The only way to understand the USA and its interactions with Russia, Ukraine and Europe is to accept that the US is now a mafia state. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Here’s my prediction for DOGE: Whatever minimal amount of money it may possibly save in the short term will be far exceeded by the ultimate cost of fixing all of the problems it creates. It’s already an epic failure.

A lesson in how claims of meritocracy as justification for opposing DEI are often cover for the demand that we return to a system of preference for white men - whatever their qualifications. Fire a qualified Black man. Hire a statutorily unqualified white man. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

We are arms dealers to terrorists.

in the trump administration, “merit” is pronounced “white” like how strom thrumond said it.

If you take Canadian oil out of the equation, Canada actually has a trade deficit, and the U.S. has a surplus — of $58 billion. We supply cheap oil to the USA to ensure North American energy independence, so North America can never again be held hostage by OPEC countries. #Canada #Trump #cdnpoli

So the President has abruptly fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Charles Q. Brown Jr., and is replacing him with a retired three star general, Dan Caine. This portends a future grave crisis as the President attempts to restructure the military into one personally loyal to him.

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.
