Does anybody in the Administration really think, after Americans being apoplectic over even minor COVID restrictions like mask mandates, are going to tolerate financial pain while the economy "transitions"? Especially if the transition is a failure?

This is the way. You call out your opposition's hypocrisy (MAGA loves to call people "snowflakes"). You mock their behavior and expose their cowardice and weakness. What AOC did here was poignant and humorous. The public responds well to it. It's what comedians do.

Citizens of other countries that are angry (rightly) at the US and want to inflict economic pain by boycotts or whatever. Our govt. will inflict 100x more economic pain on the US than you can imagine or muster.
