This was the movie where two guys were spinning around, sword-fighting so fast that one of them drilled himself into the ground like a loony toon (and was this immobilized)

Some motherfuckers are just easy too horny for the chance to goose-step around demanding to see people's papers.

If it's elon's little goons there's every reason to believe that it's both an actual government action (to whatever extent they're in the government) and a scam (lying/illegal).

Didn't have nearly the grounded realism of "White House Down"

You can certainly announce trade policies at midnight, then flip-flop on them at 6AM, and modify them twice more before lunch, but the mechanisms to put them into place (to the extent that they exist at all) don't start and stop on a dime.

It's like a fun game of choose the dystopia. Are they doing this:
• to hide crimes
• training data for AI
• digitization contracts for cronies
• destroy history
• ew! old stuff!
• just to watch it burn
• it'll be explained in a book in 30 years called "Where Were All The Good Americans?"

The best argument that Trump just likes pressing the big tariff button and all the rationales are backfilled from that conclusion is that all the stated reasons (negotiating tactic, achieving "trade parity," replacing the income tax, bringing sweatshops back) are mutually exclusive.

The US was on top of the international order for so long that a whole generation's worth of Republican dipshits assumed that the US being on top was natural and inevitable. So, they thought: "If we shake up the current order, then naturally we'll be even more on top of whatever replaces it."

A question for the ages: "Do you like higher taxes and a diminished standard of living, or are you a little bitch?"

Yes, but also every single instance of "impoundment" is theft of our tax money too.

I don't know if it counts as apocalyptic in quite the same way, but I think the elegiac tone of the Fall of Civilizations podcast is oddly comforting.
