So my record of enduring drear Tuesday-night games in November counts for nothing when it comes to securing #lofc play-off tickets

Truly a disgraceful response from European leaders (including Starmer) who forever tout their commitment to the rule of law and decent values

Today's #Observer sports pages continue to be useless. It's a sports magazine with a few results filling in the remaining space. No sense of yesterday's various dramas

This post hasn't aged well #lofc

Field maple, Downhill, County Derry

Lots of promising Proms, but may I be the first to moan about the absence of certain composers: not a note of Schubert, Haydn (as usual), Schumann, Liszt, Janacek ... And what happened to chamber music?

Trump’s repression of free speech & disappearing of foreign students from campuses push academics to look for options elsewhere. Europe’s reaction? Come here! UK meanwhile? Hiking fees & cutting foreign student rights to make UK less attractive cos all that matters is lower immigration numbers 🙄

Sadly, no copies of Philosophical Investigations were available in the lobby

this is in fact true for almost all early years interventions, which is yet another reason why the lack of childcare support in the UK is criminal

Looks like I chose the right place for an overnight stay in Dublin

As I watch Starmer tear up Labour's prospects by attacking people in poverty, abusing those who care about the living world and appeasing the ultra-rich, I feel the same sense of dislocation as I did before the Iraq War. Anyone can see the disaster coming, except, apparently, the government.

Thank you, @radio3.bsky.social, for laying on some cheerful and witty Haydn for my drive home

I do not want your app. I do not want to register. I do not want your newsletter. And, from the bottom of my heart, I do not want your notifications. Please just let me buy what I need without entering into a long-term relationship with you, you freaky fucks.

Re-reading The Mouse & his Child: belatedly, a blog for Russell Hoban's 100th birthday #hoban100 oldgeezerrereadingblog.wordpress.com/2025/04/12/r...

Having just finished watching The Leopard on Netflix (which was lovely to look at, but should have been 3 episodes, not six) I can't help agreeing with @gralefrit.bsky.social here

Surely #lofc aren't going to ignore today's milestone - the 90th birthday of Herb Alpert #TijuanaTaxi

@tomdaviese17.bsky.social This weekend all teams in the FA Cup played in their proper colours - no messing with away kits or worse. Is this a record?

Back-garden primroses #Spring

The irony of this coming from a person whose ‘people’ invaded and settled a whole continent whilst committing genocide on the native population is palpable.

It's an observation that's been made many thousands of times, no doubt, but the main teaching of Christianity is NOT "Behave like the men who tortured Jesus to death for being a political nuisance".

I'd guess that, having played 70+ minutes in Sweden today, Donley ain't likely to be in Thursday's #lofc line-up

The entire purpose of government is to tax and spend. It is what government does. These fucking assholes have pickled their brains so fully in right wing criticisms of the left that they've managed to convince themselves it's illegal to do their actual fucking job.

I don't think the political class's enthusiasm for artificial intelligence is shared by most voters. What it amounts to is that people prefer to interact with a person rather than a robot. Yes, of course AI is more complicated than that but ...(1/2)

Royal Mail's one-delivery-a-week-if-you're-lucky system seems to be the norm now here. Found a driver today who said mail was 'stacked up' in E11 sorting office and that they were prioritising parcels. Is this a nationwide problem? #RoyalMail

Attention, @elidavies.bsky.social

This is absolutely shocking if true. A government's treatment of its most vulnerable citizens is a key indicator of its humanity and the strength of its social fabric. Enough is enough

Attention Billy Wilder fans! - rare showing of Kiss Me, Stupid on Sky Arts tomorrow (Sat) #BillyWilder #DeanMartin #KimNovak

Why did no-one tell me that Homicide: Life on the Street is being re-run on Sky Atlantic? (It would be even better if it was on a channel I can actually watch)

one great mystery of our age is how the only way to motivate rich people to work is to give them loads of money for no reason but the only way to motivate poor people to work is to take away loads of their money for no reason

Yes, definitely should have been Steve #greatpotterythrowdown

Here's Graeber's whole article (it's quite short, but it says what needs to be said): jacobin.com/2021/03/davi...
