It could be longer.
And it also could be much shorter.
(But in any case yes it already seems hideously long)

It makes sense if you look at it in the framing of a fundamentalist crusade (pretty much in the literal 13th century model) against what they see as a godless infidel faith call Science. They are reaching the all Science is Evil Science stage

DEI made claiming anti-racism etc to be "cheap talk"--and made racist stances costly. Trump has flipped this--so now much clearer who actually believes in equality etc. A year ago pretty much every American co. claimed concern, now those that do are noteworthy www.newsweek.com/dei-companie....

The basic idea--that shifts in the costs/benefits of presenting yourself as aligned with a particular ideology can separate true believers from opportunists--is correct and now is a remarkable time for seeing this vividly! But yes, Graham's application of this is silly and wrong.

If humans were a different sort of species this would be absolutely wonderful work. But "the ultimate goal is to speak dolphin" is, I'm afraid, going end horribly for the dolphins when this ability inevitably gets picked up for military and other exploitive uses.

From a signaling theory perspective, the outrage expressed by non-believers is a cost that helps ensure the reliability of the belief in the lie as a signal of loyalty

Miracles can have same function in religion--e.g. belief in transubstantiation.
If I say "the sky is blue" and you agree, well, we both see the same basic reality. It says nothing about your belief in me. If I say "sky is purple w/ yellow dots" and you agree, that demonstrates your loyalty to me

Absolutely. We saw this with Trump's claim of biggest inaug. audience back in 2016--could easily see falseness of claim by photos, but became a maga signal *because* it was false--only true believers would claim it was true.
