I'm 60-something. Each day, the world's richest man threatens to take away Social Security that I earned AND a cruel president wipes out more of my 401K savings. Destroying both public and private income at the same time. Trump's Golden Age is a nightmare for those in their Golden Years.

Curious about No Mow April? Here's why you should participate! nashville.citycast.fm/urban-almana...

I love tulips!

That's what happens when you expect the mail to be delivered to the house.

I listened to Mike Hotz' presentation on overdose prevention before the Metro Council Public Health & Safety committee. He actually made me cry when he described what he sees in the field. Thank you to the Metro team working hard to prevent deaths. @bentonmcdesq.bsky.social @erinfor12.bsky.social 🦞

Happy Spring Sunday!

Informative & easy to read article to learn about SNAP & why it is imperative to preserve funding for this federal program. SNAP serves millions of working families, seniors, and people with disabilities. Assistance is delivered in a dignified way, allowing people to have food choice.

What a Friday! I started out visiting an encampment, met the Night Mayor Downtown, and took the last photo after midnight on my way back to my car. Seeing two opposite sides of Nashville in a day! (And yes, I'm car-dependent as I live out of county since we could not afford a house in Nashville).

I've seen Red Frogs in action Downtown last night. And I'm not just talking about the tent where volunteers help folks who are inebriated. I'm talking about assisting a young woman who was left behind by her friends who chose to party some more and leave her sitting on the Shelby Bridge steps. 🦞

Thank you, @bentonmcdesq.bsky.social! I think I have just become Benton's biggest fan because here is a man who truly understands what cross-departmental and cross-sector collaboration looks like. And he makes it happen! 🦞

This week, Gov. Bill Lee dropped his substitute budget with a new line item: $20 million for victim services. Advocates tell WPLN's Cynthia Abrams the governor’s decision is a “big deal,” given that, historically, the state has not directed money there.

I'm a fan & I hardly ever miss my City Cast on a Friday! @citycastnash.bsky.social But I admit, I was slightly disappointed that @whittlz.bsky.social did not call out Wally (her recovering pup) swallowing his pill as the best dog news of the week over Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre.

OK, guys, if you don't know about Nashville's Night Mayor yet, you must listen to this. Learn about the work of Benton McDonough, @bentonmcdesq.bsky.social. 🦞

Advocates for pedestrian safety recently placed wooden doves around the city to mark where pedestrians were hit and killed. These advocates, along with Diana Alarcon of @nashvilledot.bsky.social, join the show to update us on the issue of pedestrian safety. Supported by Music City Prep Clinic.

Believe it or not, I saw two pelicans today outside of Ashland City. I've seen some in that area before. I was driving and late for an appointment, so I did not get photographic evidence. I guess that's my regret of the day!

I just saw this reported by CNN and had double-check which country this was in. Outrageous! This formalizes openly the goal to keep the poor in their place, making sure the US is building a nice, strong class system benefitting the rich even more & do so on the backs of children if need be.

It is critical to elevate voices of marginalized people - now more than ever. Homelessness should not be accepted in this country. Ever. Yet, cuts to fundamental healthcare, housing, and social security programs may increase homelessness. Follow @annymoliva.bsky.social @peggybaileydc.bsky.social

In today's episode on @thisisnashville.bsky.social we explored with our guests what it truly means to build trust when you are homeless and also when you serve the unhoused community. In My Place aims to increase awareness and education about homelessness in Nashville and beyond. 🦞

Last month, we explored the first point of contact between people experiencing homelessness and outreach workers, service providers, and police. Today, we look at what happens after first contact – the importance of relationship building & the role trust plays when working with the unhoused.

I love to pull into a parking lot and see this!

Tune in to @thisisnashville.bsky.social for #InMyPlace, a series about homelessness in Nashville. Today we dive into what relationship building and trust look like for providers and the people they serve. We're on at noon (90.3 FM) @wpln.bsky.social

BREAKING & BIG: Today in PARIS, citizens voted in a referendum to PEDESTRIANIZE 500 MORE of the city's streets, giving fresh momentum to efforts by city leaders to create people-places, curb car usage, and improve air quality. 66% of Parisians voted in favour of the measure, official results showed!

I didn’t know how much I actually like frogs!

My semi-regular reminder of a really important reality about cities, density, services and taxes. Any questions? Graphic recently cleaned up by @kathrynmathias.bsky.social. #CityMakingMath

An NPR investigation uncovered 40,000 vets facing foreclosure due to a VA mistake. A rescue program is helping many of them, but others fear being left out if Congress cuts this new lifeline.

I am watching the Parisian referendum tomorrow. Density, transit options, regional train connections… we have to start somewhere. And this from me, someone who is completely car dependent because housing prices pushed me to live outside of Davidson County.

Sanders/AOC rally in Denver yesterday

Tucson, Arizona today. Original projected attendance was 3,000 people. 23,000 showed up.

I just want to post this again as a reminder how difficult it is to be homeless and that people experiencing homelessness are often victimized. Especially women are unsafe.

It’s the Friday News Roundup with @startleseasily.bsky.social! Will Metro Council get cut in half? Why are folks in Belle Meade suing over a sidewalk? And how did @brotherjones.bsky.social win Ag Day on the Hill? All that and more here, or wherever you get your podcasts:

On Monday 03/24 from 4-6 PM staff from @metronashplan.bsky.social will provide an updated briefing to the Metro Council’s Planning & Zoning Committee and Transportation & Infrastructure Committee about the Housing and Infrastructure Study. More on the study here engage.nashville.gov/housingandin....

Arizona, the model for voucher programs across the country, spent so much money paying private schoolers’ tuition that it faced hundreds of millions in budget cuts to critical state programs and projects. (Published July 2024)

I just spotted snowflakes! And yesterday I pulled a tick off me. The start to spring in Tennessee!

Thank you, to all the citizens who stand up now, who show courage, and who peacefully fight for all our children and people from all backgrounds. Let's not give up! Another way to support democracy is to donate to independent news, such as @tennesseelookout.com. So we can stay informed!

Happy First Day of Spring!

Going on right now... Will the Metro Council shrink to 20 or less from the current 40 members? 🦞
