kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

I’m confused about the trans woman fencer fiasco because everyone keeps saying “fencing is a mixed gender sport.” Of course it shouldn’t have been a Thing regardless, but I fenced competitively 1997-2000 and the events were always separated by gender and age class. Maybe things are different now?
