shades of Hereditary in this (which is a better film), but goddamn i loovvvvved so much of this. it’s heavy and dark and goes hard on the body horror [complimentary], and it’s anchored by the most charming doomed siblings in all of Australia. (plus a wackadoo Sally Hawkins!)

i wanted to like this more than i did, but there is something comforting and heartfelt in this. it’s strangely flat for most of the runtime. the actor playing Min is unbelievably terrible in it, though, and it’s especially striking when every other performance is pretty great.
