We need to make sure that everyone understands how important science is for EVERYONE not just for scientists...

Worst. Episode. EVER.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center say results of a Phase I trial of an mRNA vaccine aimed at preventing pancreatic cancer show promise. The vaccine PREVENTED the cancer from coming back in patients who had already received treatment for MORE THAN three years. 🧪🧵⬇️

Did you hear about the Italian chef? He pasta away. Get it? I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress.

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

So if you criticize Elon Musk, Trump’s DOJ will send you this letter. Members of Congress must have the right to forcefully oppose the Trump Administration. I will not be silenced.

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last. Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

This is basically right in my view. A 6% annual growth rate in published articles has been slow-brewing crisis in science. It's created an ocean of publications where too many dubious claims can find support in peer-reviewed research. This is unsustainable. www.theatlantic.com/science/arch...

Trump and Elon Musk are effectively shutting down the government bit by bit RIGHT NOW—whatever parts Elon doesn’t like. We’re talking about an unelected billionaire with massive conflicts of interest & billions in government contracts deciding how to spend YOUR taxpayer dollars.

For no particular reason - reposting this classic

So tomorrow at our lab meeting we are discussing the cuts to higher Ed, the NIH and NSF. I’ve asked my lab including all undergraduates to post a question they have about what’s going on and how it might impact their career goals. What are you all hearing from your labs?

Oh I feel this in my bones....

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

I maxed out my credit card, emptied my savings account, and took out a loan to move from Alabama to Bethesda, MD. I don’t even qualify for unemployment since I’ve only worked at NIH for a month. I will be financially and medically devastated. Seeking suggestions for anywhere that’s hiring!!

Is Trump/Musk punishing science because most scientists did not vote for them?? How does Musk think he’s getting to Mars without science? How does Trump think the economy will grow without scientific innovations?

The Washington Post refers to “a clash between the White House and the AP” when in fact it’s the White House unilaterally punishing a news outlet for using a historical place name that would-be dictator Trump doesn’t like. “Clash,” my ass. It’s a fascist attack on the free press.
