Testing and cancer diagnosis in gen practice qualitysafety.bmj.com/content/earl... Top editorial doi.org/10.1136/bmjq... Excellent on the complexities: Benefit, risk, cost, interpretation in real world settings, limitations of crude interpretation of data on testing variation to make policy

I actually quite like having a government that seems to be ignoring pathetic political arguments on social media and instead seems to be just getting on with the job. #Starmer #Labour

On Monday there were 45 patients waiting for a bed on a ward in @NHSGlos A&E...it has been at 'Opel 4' - highest level of pressure - for 10 days I am told

Just a reminder, as you look outside and notice it's already getting dark 😱, that today is the earliest sunset of the year (15:51 in London). From tomorrow the sunsets slowwwwly start getting later again. (Sunrises don't start getting earlier until Dec 30th hence solstice on 21st.) YOU ARE WELCOME.

Just before it starts in earnest, your list of 2024 achievements can be surviving 2024. You should be proud you did. I’m glad you did. 💕

#Oliverscampaign I fully stand by @BaronessHollins & this report PLEASE SHARE Baroness Hollins' final report: My heart breaks - solitary confinement in hospital has no therapeutic benefit for people with a learning disability and autistic people www.gov.uk/government/p...

"We talked about how a Poverty Truth Parliament—made up of people who have lived through poverty—could change things. Imagine the impact if those who have actually experienced poverty were at the table when decisions are made"

At National Voices we talk a lot about patient admin and many people ask what we mean and why patients who don't cancel appointments shouldn't be charged, so here's a thread on my attempt to cancel an appointment. I was offered an appointment for 30 December - I am away so can't make it. so.... 1/4

It’s a dreary old day outside & not much positivity going on, so I’m posting photos of Ruben my Norfolk Terrier. Well he always makes me smile 😊

On the Louise Haigh resignation, too many people have IMO jumped on the line that ‘the media wouldn’t have let it go’. I think it’s a totally legitimate story to report and we shouldn’t get mad at media for that. It’s up to the government to decide not to throw ministers under the bus in response.

READ: “Policies to help people walk & cycle such as low-traffic neighbourhoods can create public health benefits as much as 100 times greater than the cost of the schemes, a long-term study has concluded.” AND the benefits continue to grow even higher over time. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

Big day in parliament. The truth that seems unreported is how kind, reasonable and thoughtful the debate has been between those who don't agree, constituents and MPs alike. Kim Leadbeater has led from the front with the kind of graft and compassion, anyone who knows her would have expected.

#primarycare #familymedicine We need SAFE , accessible green spaces and partnerships to support those populations and localities with the highest risk of mental health problems & the worst access to healthcare and community green space assets evidence.nihr.ac.uk/alert/local-...

Yes agreed

It is nearly impossible to get into secondary MH services these days. Even if you do, you still get the same old advice: “If you can’t keep yourself safe, dial 999 or get yourself to A&E.” People with longstanding MH conditions are literally instructed to behave in a way that creates this problem

Like many others, I feel very strongly about this. @ilovepathology.bsky.social, chair of NCEPOD, expresses appropriate concerns about how we miss far too often the opportunities to discuss end of life care. Report by Matthew Limb in the @bmj.com. #EOLC #PalliativeCare #ChoosingWisely #MedSky

The UK is an ageing society, where formal care is costly and the public funds to support it are badly stretched. Care costs have outstripped inflation – and incomes.

What can the government learn from previous attempts to reform social care? A new long read from @healthfoundation.bsky.social colleagues identifies four lessons for the government as it grasps this nettle. A thread 🧵

The toxic conversation around PAs / AAs is one of reasons I’m leaving the other place. So I thought this piece from the BBC was helpful - bbc.com/news/articles/… Looking forward to Prof Gillian Leng’s review being based in the evidence + also maybe looking at impact of the debate on public trust.

Vaccines save lives. Keep repeating the message. It’s the truth.
