When we fight, we win. Judge Halts Implementation of Trump Anti-DEIA Executive Orders Nationwide The AAUP is proud to stand up & defend our campuses & communities against those attempting to squash civil rights & halt progress toward an equitable, multi-racial democracy. www.washingtonpost.com

No time like now to join the AAUP! Just this decision alone makes your dues worth every penny.

In A Promised Land, I recall my mother, Ann Dunham, teaching Maya and me about civil rights, poverty, and respect for others. She believed true power came from lifting people up, and that logic and progress would prevail over injustice. "The world is complicated—that’s what makes it interesting.

The government cannot stop you from informing others about their legal rights. Know your rights when educating your community.

¡Feliz cumpleaños, Coyolxauhqui!

It's been pointed out already, but looking at current media coverage, apparently not often enough: trowelandpen.com/2025/01/22/c...

Celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth with this selection of NEH grant-supported projects and resources! ow.ly/vg0r50V3rOc

I showed this page to my undergrads on Tuesday and asked them who and what can be objects of study according to the NEH. “Straight white men,” they all said as one. (And the media and most Dems still can’t call a racist Nazi a racist Nazi.)

NEH introduces new prohibited categories to comply with executive orders. This is an infringement of academic freedom plain and simple, and also nonsense: what is “discriminatory equity ideology”

Janet Mills is a total bad ass. I love a strong Maine woman. Full support to her and everyone who has the courage to stand up to the rapist felon.

This thread 🧵 collects all the #archaeology 🏺 starter packs Share far & wide. We could all use a little more archaeology in our lives @cjfrieman.bsky.social made the OG Archaeology and heritage list with first wave Twitter refugee scholars & orgs. Go follow Catherine now! bsky.app/starter-pack...

JUST IN: A judge has enjoined President Trump's effort to block federal funds from going toward grant recipients who engage in DEI practices. The judge says the orgs are likely to succeed on claims that this is viewpoint discrimination, among other issues storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

What’s up with Milei’s hair?

That incredibly satisfying feeling when you edit a 8,500 word draft to under the 6,000 limit.

Here we go. Certain generals must be removed before any martial law plan is put into action—as Trump and Hegseth are worried there may still be some generals out there who support the Constitution rather than his proposed dictatorship. This is a political purge intended as a precursor to far more.

Take J. Edgar Hoover and then make him 30 times worse. The whole nation will suffer for this folly. Suffer so much more than anyone yet realizes. This was a critical benchmark Trump had to hit to advance his plan to destroy democracy. Everyone who voted for Kash Patel should live in infamy forever.

This is not how federal criminal investigations work. —me (former federal criminal investigator)

Well this isn’t ominous

Musk went straight to the slurs after being called out yet again for saying that astronauts have been stranded on the International Space Station by the Biden administration for “political reasons”—a lie that astronauts themselves have repeatedly debunked.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are messing with your Medicare benefits. Democrats passed a law to finally let Medicare negotiate with Big Pharma for lower prices. Now Trump and Musk laid off the negotiators. That means higher drug costs for you. Nothing efficient about that.

The unraveling of Medicare has begun👇

Happy #AnthroDay my fellow anthropologists! Here’s to studies of ethnicity, inequality, cultures and cultural differences, gender, racism, advocacy, senses of belonging, diversity, social justice, marginalised minorities, stereotypes, and all the other important topics of our discipline #anthropology

It's a difficult time for making the world safe for human differences. But not doing so is cruel as well as short sighted relative to our own success as a business, community, nation, and species. #AnthroDay #ksleg marcelharmon67.substack.com/p/honoring-w...

Happy Anthropology Day! This #AnthroDay check out some of our newest titles in anthropology. dukeupress.wordpress.com/2025/02/20/w...

Apparently it's anthropology day! Today I interviewed a scholar who spoke about bringing an "anthropologists eye" to public health. She connected historic land loss to dietary change & medicalisation for a "holistic" explanation of local maternal mortality @americananthro.bsky.social #AnthroDay

Happy #AnthroDay!

The 2024 Anthropology Day celebration is today! Thursday, February 15. Anthropology Day is a day for anthropologists to celebrate our discipline while sharing it with the world around us. Anthropology Day 🏺🧪 Celebrate. Engage. Inspire. americananthro.org/events/anthr...

Happy world anthropology day! Read an ethnography (this is a pretty good one)

What day is today? It's the World Anthropology Day 😍 And that means an opportunity comes again to enrich you with another salient quote from Marshall Sahlins, a recently deceased pillar of our discipline, who during his life created a school of social anthropology of his own! #edusky #academicsky 🏺

Recent gale force winds and high spring tides have brought a fair bit of Lego from the 1997 cargo spill to the surface. This haul was found by Liutauras and his family while picking up plastic from Whitsand Bay in Cornwall over the weekend.

So far in this course we've explored a range of approaches to looking at the archaeology of the contemporary world, as well as looking at the (short) history of the discipline

Oh look, a peer-reviewed study detected microplastics in 99%, or 180 out of 182, samples of seafood either bought at the store or obtained from a fishing boat in Oregon. #NomNomNom #collapse

Welcome to the new Bluesky account for the Contemporary Archaeology module run by the Department of Archaeology, Durham University. This is a course where we explore the archaeology of the contemporary world in a hands-on way.

After reading this review by Emily H. Wilson, I sat in my car and wept happy tears. "a new and spellbinding book" "must-read, millennia-spanning history" I'm speechless with gratitude and pure joy. www.newscientist.com/article/mg26...

This is cool!

If it looks like there are two different fonts on this clay tablet from ancient Babylon, that’s because there are. In December of 603 BCE, a young scribe named Balāṭa made a faithful copy of a far more ancient inscription of Sîn-Kashid who had ruled Uruk over 1,000 years earlier.
