Creativity doesn't require talent. Many people just lost the ability to play. Have fun with an idea, and not let rational thinking dominate. The unexpected combination of things, experimentation. Letting go of perfectionism.

Yes, I am aware that nobody will notice the mistakes in the colorful chaos. But still, I feel the urge to scrap the whole doodle and instead pose and trace my 3D model.

Thank you, I'm glad you like the light reflections!
Regarding the smell... yeeeeah, I've been asking myself that question, too. Could very well be... but who knows, maybe her oh-so-noble Elf genes compensate for that. 😄

I love it! 😄 Such a hilariously weird combination. Also, the drawing and coloring turned out amazing!

Reminds me of what a fellow LARPer once said: "The scarier the costume, the nicer the player inside it."
And I can confirm. On average, I've had better experiences with those playing Chaos warriors and orcs than with those considering themselves knights in shining armor.

Thank you for reminding me of that.
I often worry that I'm overthinking my plot instead of actually writing the scenes, but since I want to write a whole series, I will need this kind of scaffolding.
Better to catch the plot holes now than to try and patch them up afterwards.

That's what I want to give readers.
The idea that, no matter how broken you are now, you have a chance to become whole again. That you can find people around whom you can drop your survival mechanisms. And maybe - just maybe - even sooner than some would consider "realistic."
Dare to hope.

Fantasy is called fantasy for a reason.
The point is to balance dreams and reality. Keep things believable, but give people something to wish for that they don't find in the real world.
Why would you try to improve your reality if you can't imagine something better than what you already have?

So, yes. Readers might form unrealistic expectations if they saw a novel protagonist overcome 20 years of trauma within a few years of bickering with their allies.
But they might also say "F*** it, I want what they're having" and decide to put in the effort needed for their own healing.

Is it realistic that people travel to the other side of the world within a day?
That depends on who you ask.
Medieval farmers would just have laughed at you.
Jules Verne considered it realistic to do it in 80 days.
Today, an airplane can take me from Germany to Canada within 8 hours.

One could argue that I'm setting readers up for disappointment if my characters overcome their psychological wounds in an "unrealistic" time frame.
But "realistic" is a very fluent concept.

We don't see fantasy characters dying of tetanus left and right.
Instead, we see them wield magic, defeat enemy soldiers despite being outnumbered, and convincing bystanders to join their revolution.

My goal is not to represent reality 1:1. My goal is to give people hope.
Yes, I plan to focus on the characters' healing journeys. And those will be challenging, with frustratingly small wins and disheartening setbacks. But why shouldn't I make things a bit easier for them than it is for us?

Is it realistic that traumatized, dysfunctional idiots become a healthy friend group and even romantic partners?
Maybe not.
But neither is getting superpowers after a freak accident, or learning that you were destined to defeat some kind of Dark Lord from the day you were born.
