Every line of this speech ….

"And it is vital that any deal reached brings an enduring peace, that Russia will never again try to take one square kilometer of Ukrainian land" - NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

📚💙 I’ve just finished Cause for Alarm by Eric Ambler. An early example of the spy genre from the 30s, an engineer takes a job running an armaments business in Italy as the shadows of war wrap around the continent. With spies and fascists all around he has little choice but to respond.

@briandw29.bsky.social good to see you here

@trainline.bsky.social I’m trying to sort a refund but really going around in circles right now. How can you help?

Book highlights from January💙📚 A People's Tragedy -heartbreaking, human, painful and insightful with a clear message for today at the end. The Village, an excellent murder in 1940s Japan; love Anglo Saxon history; Pachinko, captivating, thought provoking, looks at racism - worth a read.

literally an attempt to subvert our democracy www.ft.com/content/dd4b...

UK safeguarding minister accuses Musk of endangering her life https://www.ft.com/content/0949466b-85a6-4f33-8e5d-5ef3a6c59b9a

Elon Musk, owner of X, tweeted that Home Office Minister Jess Phillips "deserves to be in prison" and labelled her a "rape genocide apologist" This is the type of radicalised content that socialises people towards violence against Ministers and MPs www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/starmer...

Any woman who has ever received online abuse has some understanding of what Jess Philips is now exposed to, but it is on an entirely different level. It is dangerous to her safety. Yes, it is diplomatically “delicate”. But if you do nothing it is an admission of your own impotence. A capitulation.

I have deleted my X/Twitter account. I urge others to do the same. It can no longer pretend to be anything other than a danger and harm to our democracy. My full statement is below:

Not every anomalous media criticism of Sadiq Khan is directly motivated by racism - eg this BBC story. But they are the housetrained edges of a deeply racist set of assumptions which sees negative stories about Khan get loads of clicks and engagement. There’s no mystery to it.

That time of year again 💙📚

Sterling close to its highest value against the Euro since the Brexit referendum. Markets appear to be rewarding the prospect of long term British political stability. Not something you’ve been able to say for a while.

Kemi’s attacking sandwiches Nigel’s going after semi-skimmed milk Labour? We’re getting homes built

The CEO of Thames Water was called to a special Gloucestershire County Council meeting to answer questions on sewage spills in Gloucestershire’s rivers, huge dividends, and sky high water bills. The CEO didn't show up. He sent representatives instead and offered no apology. What arrogance…

What I want for Christmas is for everyone to have their very own headset for travelling. 🧑‍🎄

Another night of protests in Georgia Yesterday, people were in the streets all day in Tbilisi and across the country, but the protests intensified again late in the evening Once more, the police used water guns and tear gas against the crowd, and tried to disperse the protest, particularly around 5-6 am

We helped evaluate @mayorofldn.bsky.social universal primary free school meal policy. What did we learn about the effect on children, families & schools? ➕ Positive effect on health & wellbeing 💰 Improved family finances 🤝 Strengthened school communities 🟰 More to do to ensure equitable access

@kimleadbeatermp.bsky.social thank you so much for your leadership

A gentle reminder that Kemi Badenoch admitted hacking into a website, which is a criminal offence

Such a relief. A long way to go but a future of choice ahead.

David Davis: "I'm someone who has changed his mind on this. Because I'm someone who believes in the sanctity of life...but I'm also against torture."

Such clear and concise reasoning for the decision. Thank you Tom for being such a thoughtful and communicative MP.

I will be voting in favour of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill to legalise what has already effectively been decriminalised, extend choice, and give fairness of access. I have recorded a video which covers some of the points which have informed my decision: vimeo.com/1034191952/8...

would like to see a venn diagram of those who 1] signed the petition calling for a second 2024 election, and also 2] raged against the very idea of a Brexit second referendum

In tears at this. This poor lady probably chose to go to Switzerland to die earlier than her quality of life demanded to ensure her right to choose. The right to die is also the right to life.

Who is really escalating the war in Ukraine? It certainly isn’t the West www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

We are drowning in plastics. If business as usual continues, plastic production will triple by 2060. Yesterday, we started our participation in the final negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty to reach an agreement to tackle plastic pollution at global level. 🧵↓
