UKGvt should take note. If they approve China’s plans for mega embassy in London, UK will have much of this to look forward to. CCP already thinks it can behave w impunity.

...international law”. And that’s common to many of us who feel strongly abt human rights and int'l law who currently feel badly let down by UKLabGvt, whether that's on Iran or on China, to whom UKGvt is just abt to award a mega-embassy even whilst China's critical breaches of SBJD go uncorrected.

It was obvious this wd happen when US Gvt defunded RFA. Trump is the most ignorant US Pres ever. Sadly, the stupidity of half of Americans in electing him is affecting not just the US, but the rest of the world & the fight for what's right.

Difference is the Chinese did not vote for their gvt, whereas half of Americans did for theirs.

HKDC is joining forces with UK-Hong Kongers and our Tibetan, Uyghur, Taiwanese and Chinese allies, and will gather next Saturday, 8 February, at 2:00 pm in London, outside the Royal Mint Court, to protest against this proposed new site for the Chinese Embassy.

If Chinese Gvt was to demand user data, under the guise of national security - and CCP is infamous for how widely and vaguely it applies that concept - there’s no way Bytedance could refuse to comply.

It’s no more than what Chinese Gvt does, and yet UKLabGvt & whole bunch of other W. Eur leaders all lining up to kiss Dictator Xi’s arse.

Lots of similar headlines today. All of the arguments deployed by UKLabGvt are utter crap & wd apply equally to Russia, N Korea, Iran, Afghanistan and, in fact, any terrorist adversary (of which China is one).

Do they still use formaldehyde in Chinese beers? Used to be the norm not so long ago.

The same Peng LiYuan, wife of Dictator Xi, who congratulated & sang for Chinese troops shortly after the Tiananmen Massacre. We should admire her singing in the same way that we would admire Asma Al-Assad or Eva Braun's singing.

Lai’s trial “emblematic of the destruction of Hong Kong’s freedoms and the impunity with which Beijing believes it can now behave”.
Damn right. It is unconscionable that this visit taking place at all & that UKLabGvt willing to ignore HKers’ guaranteed rights under SBJD, all in the name of trade.

It is disappointing to see that a Government which promised so much in relation to political prisoners in Opposition is adopting this approach.
This is a view shared by many, many families of prisoners & by former prisoners, sadly.

There’s of course a reference to raising areas of concern & Hong Kong. We may later be told Jimmy Lai was raised on the trip - we shall see.
But the overall messaging is clear. This is a trip focused on “the number one mission of this Government… growing the economy”.

Tonight, an article was published by the Chancellor about her trip.
Read it.
Read it again.
Not a single mention of Jimmy Lai, this remarkable British man.

As a firm supporter of Ukraine, I've followed you on several platforms. However, I wouldn't touch #Tiktok with a bargepole. This China HQ'd platform is subject to Chinese laws incl that #CCP, Ru's 'no limits friendship' partner, can demand user data at any time under the guise of national security.

PRC's budget for actually improving the quality of life for its citizens: limited. It works for the #CCP to keep its ppl poor, giving it a vast supply of cheap & forced labour & spending the money instead on its police state, military, propaganda, buying influence overseas & prestige projects.
