Wow, I thought it was misidentification but it appears to be the case that Christie Henry, Director of Princeton University Press @princetonupress.bsky.social, did go to the Uyghur-populated region and regurgitate propaganda about coexistence in one of the heaviest policed places on earth.

“When I returned to Br, Starmer was one of the first to greet me & get a picture…promising his gvt wd stand up for human rights in Iran. In opposition, there was no equivocation. But in gvt, there has been much more equivocation around the UK’s commitment to... www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Credit where due, Trump admin spot on here. Never thought Trump admin cd be so right and UKLabGvt so wrong, but here we are. CCP still supporting Ru's war in Ukr, committing genocide, breaching int'ly-binding SBJD in HK etc. Detente will just embolden them further www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

I hope the plaintiffs succeed. www.euronews.com/next/2025/06...

Time was when this would be front page news in "The Guardian". But I can't find this article on the main page of its website and the piece appeared hours after similar pieces in, say, English language Japanese outlets. It really doesn't help that "The Guardian" no longer has a rep in Hong Kong.

Why do we always talk about an event that happened now 36 years ago? Because authoritarian regimes function in part by erasing or rewriting history. The Chinese government still deny the Tiananmen Square Massacre happened. It did and we have to keep on saying as much until justice is served.

‪Karl Hui 許家耀‬ It's rather poor that an article like this, published on the anniversary of Tiananmen, doesn't even mention #UyghurGenocide or China's critical and numerous breaches of the Sino-British Joint Declaration & only has fleeting ref to human rights www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Free Jimmy Lai www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/05...

Gulf states infamous for modern slavery, this is the problem w Starmer - has no real values, simply surviving bc Tories so unpopular. I feel the anguish of the critics of this deal. It does not bode well for those of us urging UKGvt to hold the line against China www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Horrific yet not surprising for China: false confessions bc pointless to defend your innocence in system with almost 100% criminal conviction rate... good behaviour points for studying Communist Party literature or snitching on other prisoners... psychological torture and manipulation

Anyone who, in the face of Trump’s chaotic presidency, somehow thinks that they shd cosy up to China instead & that Dictator Xi isn’t so bad after all…is seriously deluded.

Talks a good talk on Ukraine, and yet willing to appease China, desperate to do business w it, turning a blind eye to its threats in Taiwan, West Philippine Sea etc.

Sickening. This is what the Chinese Gvt does. And UKGvt is still so desperate to appease it and do business w it. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Don’t give China its London mega-embassy on the cheap. The price of normalised relations should include the release of Hong Kong political prisoners and £3 billion of trapped pension savings belonging to exiles who fled the city www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

Communist China, the dictatorship that UKGvt is so desperate to appease & do business with, is the worst global perpetrator of physical attacks on dissidents, responsible for 22% of reported cases. www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

【CALL TO ACTION: Protest Against the Chinese Super-Embassy on 8 February】 @blairmcdougall.com, Chair of APPG on Hong Kong, urges Hong Kongers to join the protest against the Chinese Super-Embassy plan and UK Government’s apparent willingness to accommodate Beijing’s demands. (Shared from HKDC)

A few years ago we published a report #DruggedAndDetained about how #China puts political targets and petitioners into mental asylums. @BBCWorld has just released a documentary describing how the practice has seen a recent surge. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV2f...

The regressive protest laws passed in the UK by the previous gov't gave police have powers to shut a protest for "nuisance". China's proposed mega embassy would be hard to hold even a small protest outside of. (By design) There must be space for protest! NO to the royal mint embassy plan!

No to the Chinese Communist Party's mega-embassy in Westminster!! Prove the government wrong.

The British government is preparing to override local opposition and approve China’s mega-embassy opposite the Tower of London, after deciding the space is adequate to accommodate protests. Activist groups plan to prove them wrong

This govt says only "small" groups will protest the CCP's mega-embassy in Westminster. Let’s prove them WRONG! Join us to say no to the #CCP's giant embassy development at the Old Royal Mint!! See you on 8th Feb! We must fight for #FreeSpeech!

As s/o who firmly believes in holding dictators & bullies to acct, it's taken me half a year to reach the same levels of disillusionment with UKLabGvt that it took me yrs to reach w the previous Cons gvt. More pathetic appeasement: www.reuters.com/world/uk/bri...

Following our reporting that China's new embassy site in London could give access to vital communication cables, the UK foreign secretary and home secretary have signaled support for the plans. REMINDER: UK intelligence warned the govt that China could tap the cables.

Keir Starmer and his ministers appear to be competing to see who can kowtow lowest to China. As I write in the spectator not only is it desperate & morally repugnant, but can only increase dependencies and undermine security #China #reeves www.spectator.co.uk/article/labo...

Horrific message for UKLabGvt to be giving out. if growing the economy is all that matters, why not (re-)establish trade relations with Russia, N Korea, Iran, Afghanistan? The human rights atrocities of these terrorist states are no more than those of China.

Lai’s trial “emblematic of the destruction of Hong Kong’s freedoms and the impunity with which Beijing believes it can now behave”. Damn right. It is unconscionable that this visit taking place at all & that UKLabGvt willing to ignore HKers’ guaranteed rights under SBJD, all in the name of trade.

Timing of Rachel Reeves’s visit to Beijing is awful. As I report in the Spectator, the govt's attempt to construct a coherent #china policy is shameful. If there is one lesson from recent years of policy failure, it is that appeasement doesn't work www.spectator.co.uk/article/what...
