Dress it up in progressive language but you're cheating yourself by not doing the work. This is the worst thing about AI: millions of students refusing to learn, taking zero interest in the world around them, empty in mind and heart. Your punishment is the person you will become.

Strongly agree. I don’t know who I’d be today if teachers and professors in high school and college hadn’t taught me how to think through art, literature, history, the world and my relationship to it through the act of writing, but I wouldn’t be who I am, that’s for sure.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

I unplugged myself all day yesterday. I was spiraling pretty hard this weekend because of the news. That combined with an overly- ambitious social calendar over the weekend left me with an empty tank. I encourage others feeling this kind of burnout to do the same. It will be there when you get back
