In every single interview I’ve done with international media since Trump took power I’ve been asked: Why are there no mass protests? There are many reasons, of course, but the utter refusal of the self-proclaimed “fourth estate” to communicate clearly what is happening has to be high on the list.

Bill Cassidy was performing the role of a soap opera doctor at the RFK Jr. hearings. He is, in fact, a doctor. But he was performing. How do I know this? Because he voted to confirm RFK Jr. Naturally Cassidy is now spinning like a top as the RFK backfire has already begun.

I'm begging people to remember that 'meritocracy' was coined for a work of satirical fiction. It is not a real thing, and, as the satire suggested, defining 'merit' as a standalone measurable individual quality is impossible.

Thanks to @sketchesbyboze.bsky.social for reminding me of this Ursula K. le Guin quote.

"We don't work for DOGE. We have always worked for you." Yes!

young posters, the use of language changed before you were born, so in case you didn't know this: the reason things like Social Security and Medicare are called "entitlements" isn't (derogatory) it's because access is *guaranteed* in exchange for your advance payments into the program

Not surprised that it's community colleges that are fighting back. Community colleges serve the greatest number of people facing systemic barriers. A large percentage of community college students are the first in their family to attend college.

I've said often, based on history, that there's no reasonable expectation most people will be courageous in the face of fascism. Bravery is rare. It's valued for a reason: Most people aren't cut out for it, for reasons good and bad. But man, you'd still sorta hope the ABA woulda held the line.

This also goes for digital books and digital audiobooks you get from the library--they pay for the licenses, and the more copies available at once the more they are paying/"purchasing." Go use Libby and Hoopla, it counts as support!

“We have an obligation to resist kings, we have an obligation to resist oligarchs.”

The student who ripped this sign down did more for trans people than most of our politicians.

I'm gonna keep reposting examples of people not taking shit because it's important for us to see that you can, simply, reject the shit. Say "Uh... no no no, we will not be tolerating that."

btw, i will tell you this - i have been talking to people all day, and the media is missing, whether intentionally or not, how absolutely, volcanically angry the people who have been fired are, not because they lost their jobs, but because their jobs matter, *to us*

1. On Friday Night, it became apparent that historic LGBTQ+ clinic Whitman-Walker in DC had erased trans care and resources from it's website. The stated reason is harmful to us all. I make my case against it, and other orgs, erasing us for federal dollars. Subscribe to support my journalism.

Hey: If you made it through the week, and you tried to do some things to help other people — large or small — where you could, and you need to hear it, I’m here to tell you thank you. Get some rest. Figure out today, then figure out tomorrow.

“MAGA stands for resegregation and racism”

The crash is beginning in academia.

Basma’s initiative gives us a chance to enable 20 families with a solar panel. A donor is matching 150, so every $5 has 40x impact ‼️ 💡 if we can get to 25% of the cost of this solar panel this weekend, it will go a long way towards empowering this community! https://tiny.cc/HelpBasma

If the SAVE Act is signed into law, active duty service members and married women would not be able to vote because the verbiage of the bill does not accept name change forms, marriage licenses, military IDs, or even RealIDs (which everyone in Louisiana had to get). Tribal IDs wouldnt count either

I want someone to pry the "bio" off of this and make a Vulcans Only bathroom.

The unseen, terrible consequences of Trump's ax on indirect costs. Millions of research animals may die due to lack of funding to keep them alive, yet anti-vivisectionists would call this a long-term win. Go figure.

it’s so funny to be like “we don’t need diverse spies”

🧵A mini story: For a long time, I wrote about history for a website affiliated with a large, history-branded cable brand whose staff gave little to no inkling of having much grounding in history whatsoever. (I will leave you to draw your own conclusions.) 1/

recent national political discourse pretty conclusively shows how U.S. crime and punishment politics are really a question of which people with which racial positions are allowed to do as they like. liberal pundits should have learned this when the "felon" label failed to do any work for them

If you can, consider doing a little bit of good when all else feels bleak by joining me in donating to help this family... (lookit those kiddos!) And if you can't, I appreciate a share! www.gofundme.com/f/fkpt6-help...

This book is magical, poetic and unforgettable

Following a loud public outcry about job cuts at the National Parks Service — and a relentless media campaign from outdoors enthusiasts across the country — it looks like the Trump administration has blinked. via @jackdolan.bsky.social

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center say results of a Phase I trial of an mRNA vaccine aimed at preventing pancreatic cancer show promise. The vaccine PREVENTED the cancer from coming back in patients who had already received treatment for MORE THAN three years. 🧪🧵⬇️

more evil, hateful bullshit the “biological sex” thing is so annoying because it’s not just bigoted it’s also bad science. i am intersex and also physically transitioning, the fuck bathroom do i belong in. they mean sex assigned at birth, which is … based on a doctor just looking at the infant

A growing group of content creators are trying to counteract misleading and false wellness claims online from influencers hawking supplements and unproven remedies.

Several Palestinian media outlets are reporting that Israeli forces have assaulted Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem and prevented them from reaching the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third-holiest site, to perform Friday prayers. 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.io/zolajy

Doesn't know what AI is, doesn't know what duplicitous means, doesn't know what the CDC does.

Trump’s EO ruining the independence of federal agencies shows the real goal of Musk and Trump is not efficiency or even winning the culture wars. It’s thievery. And they are *exceptional* thieves. My latest in @thenation.com

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue: 1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance 2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion 3. Don't live post resistance meetings

Subscribe to Jezebel, and I promise if the internet gets banned or it becomes illegal for women to laugh online, we'll buy some fucking horses and ride from state to state to scream the news Paul Revere style and throw abortion pills at your house. www.jezebel.com/unprecedente...

acknowledging the history and existence of black people in america is not dei; it is not diversity; it is describing what is in front of you.
