Reading Jayne Anne Phillips’ Night Watch. Compelling dense novel rendered more dense because this UK paperback edition has chunks of text missing from the bottom of every three or four pages. I’m reading it anyway, going with the bumpy flow but someone should do something? @littlebrown.bsky.social

Reminder: 12 Feb - Ofcom lunchtime training session/Q&A for small, low-risk community websites. Some great questions in already - can't stress how important it is to send in Qs as all part of a useful evidence base. 139 ppl already signed up lu.ma/qijpvfnl

Reading this from the PM, I think my assessment is right. This isn't so much a technology plan or a delivery strategy but a shop window for investment. on.ft.com/4gNko2L

"Substack is, just as a reminder, a political project made by extremists with a goal of normalizing a radical, hateful agenda by co-opting well-intentioned creators' work in service of cross-promoting attacks on the vulnerable." Read this! Especially if you have a popular newsletter.

My unpopular opinion is that the government is doing a lot. Most of it is good, some of it is very good, and some of it is not good at all. It has a narrative and a sense of moral purpose - to defeat populism through competence and service. It has an ideology, which is left technocrat.

What better time than now for some nature inspiration: download Encounter www.encounter-nature.com, our guided nature journal that lives in your phone. Today a tip about ballooning spiders, yesterday a rather shocking story about hunting wrens. All ready for you to add your own observations too.

Great thread here from @rachelcoldicutt.bsky.social on how AI could be in useful service to encyclopaedias:

Seagrass. One of my great loves. Wonderful to see this project.

A friend told me that actor Chris Pines' full name is 'Christmas Pinecone', and I often think about this at Christmas and I really hope that it's true. It's just so wonderful. 😊🎄 #Christmas #Bluesky #ChrisPine
