how i'm spending my day off

california was good, but it's good to be back

Most coding isn’t writing code. It’s reading docs written by someone who almost explained it. It’s staring at logs that say "undefined error" It’s fixing something you broke while fixing something else. But that's where the skill is built. Keep pushing through the mess — that's how we level up. 👨‍💻🚀

from one of my alums: "mentoring an intern for the summer and they put up a PR with tests that failed CI I asked if it passed locally, and the they said they never actually ran the tests they used AI to write the code, thought it looked okay, and just submitted without testing anything"

Something I learned from my gnarly oncall shift - It is absolutely OKAY to pull in a senior teammate and have them babysit you (pair) while you figure something out

What an angel

also, the people who voted in trump are STILL HERE there is no guarantee that the next four years will be better

If Gen AI is reducing employment of entry level tech workers because experienced workers are more productive, what happens when they retire or leave the industry? Who's making the "more experienced tech workers"?

Sometimes you just have to stop and appreciate knowledge and just knowing shit. That human doing all kinds of wizard shit with chemistry, music, basketballs, their fists, engineering, art, their emotional intelligence, etc. at one point lacked the knowledge to even avoid shitting on themselves.

We gotta bring back respect for knowledge, the joy in the pursuit of it, and the desire to be excellent in our crafts on principle.

this i will agree with i reallllllly fought hard on this, but management told me i wasn't growing fast enough because of remote work (i work on an in-person team) now i visit the office 1x/month and my team is happy with me 🤷🏿‍♀️

we're losing recipes

Companies in ~5 years: "Why can't we hire any senior level developers with experience."

E-40 AT TINY DESK???? LMAO

don't mind me folks, this has been an especially bad oncall week i'll keep the sadgirl vibes to a minimum tmrw

i don't know ... not in a good mood today as someone who thinks understanding things is important, this industry is starting to feel increasingly hostile

junior engineers taking yet another L

Yep. Absolutely love when my team does this

Waterfall at Hamilton Mountain

View of the Columbia from Hamilton Mountain

Visited a mountain today

But the hard part is that I skipped gym class to investigate 😔 The cost of oncall, I suppose
