I am starting a campaign: every time I see a complication of a vaccine preventable illness I am planning to call bill cassidy and tell him about it and ask him what he is planning to do about Rfk. Please feel free to join me…Called about three patients today(HIPAA complaint way ofc)

Hopefully all recommended vaccines continue to be available in U.S. I cannot stress enough the importance of finding a pediatrician or primary care doc who believes in science & who you trust with your health to provide guidance on vaccines for you & your children. www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...

Don’t buy stuff on February 28. Money’s the only thing these dicks understand. #resist

The university that declares “We are not throwing trans kids under the bus, we are not ending diversity and inclusiveness efforts, and we are not opening our doors to ICE agents” would not only be uniquely heroic but would be doing some strong branding work on the cheap.

American life expectancy is what is BECAUSE of health care disparities.. if you are rich, white, urban in the United States you can expect a life expectancy on par with the longest in the world. If you are poor and a minority tho… and yet we’ve effectively banned equity research. Make it make sense

I am reading cloud cuckoo land. This sentence though…

I am deeply disappointed by the subdued response of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (@idsainfo.bsky.social) to the dismantling of public health structures, both in the US & globally Here's what I wrote in the closed listserv (response: 🦗) in hopes of stimulating discussion here #IDSky

I have not seen a crisis of this magnitude since yesterday

From USAID colleague, with permission to share. It's not just chaos it is devastation and tearing apart of families and communities. Not to talk of systems that kept us safe. This is just one story, multiple this by 10,000. Is this really making America great?

@mcuban.bsky.social one thought I keep having is as the government gets more hostile to many forms of scientific research, one way conscientious billionaires can have an impact is moving to fill the financial void that develops to fund this critical work. So much will be lost without funding..

I just joined @drsforamerica.bsky.social, "an organization representing 27,000 physicians & medical students that filed a lawsuit against multiple federal agencies over the removal of public health information & health-related data from gov't websites." So glad to see efforts to fight back. #medsky

www.science.org/content/blog... The best and most completely summary I have seen of the attack on science at the moment. Utterly insane

Institutions that can sustain a body blow now is your time to step up

I spoke to @science.org about how purging data harms public health response. I called it a data apocalypse because it is driving the end of the scientific world. www.science.org/content/arti...

What’s stopping @idsainfo.bsky.social from doing this?

This is key: keep calling/emailing. Media is not up to the task, and professional societies can’t/don’t move quickly-aggressively enough. It is most important for red state legislators to hear. Invertebrates will grow a spine only when they realize the impact on their own constituents. #IDSky

Did you call your senator and congressman yesterday? Call them again today! Oppose the confirmation of #RFKJr. He is dangerous for public health. U.S. Capitol Switchboard operator can also connect you directly with their office: (202) 224-3121

American science and medicine has been thrown into chaos and uncertainty over the past week. Here are some stories to get up to speed. 1/12

Trump is going after HHS-funded scientists and, by default, Universities, many of which can’t function sufficiently without federal grant money. I can’t quite push aside the knowledge that fascist regimes often go after academics and intellectuals first.

The ECDC : www.ecdc.europa.eu/en The WHO: www.who.int Public Health England: www.gov.uk/government/o... Are all excellent alternative sources of information on common health issues, vaccine guidance, health travel advice etc. If the CDC goes dark know your options

New: Trump officials have paused all external communications at health agencies like CDC, FDA, NIH. No health alerts and the famed MMWRs; no updates to key websites or social media posts. And no indication how long the pause will last. With @rachelroubein.bsky.social + Lena Sun.

IAS President Beatriz Grinsztejn and the International AIDS Society stand united with the global health community in expressing deep concern over the US withdrawal from @who.int.

@who.int is a critical proponent for global health and health equity for all humankind. Only together, can we efficiently detect and fight global health threats such as disease outbreaks, pandemics, AMR, health impacts of global warming etc Noone is safe until everyone is safe. #SupportWHO

thehill.com/opinion/heal... Excellent op-ed about the dangers of leaving the door open to an RFK jr nomination by @davidoxman.bsky.social #IDSky

All four pee paws

„Mr. Kennedy is a vaccine cynic, failing to accept studies that refute his beliefs.“ 🎯 this is exactly why calling anti-vaccine activists “sceptics” misses the point. Being sceptical is ingrained into regulatory agencies & vaccine advisory committees. Critical review of data, not denial of evidence

www.nytimes.com/2025/01/10/u... Truly despicable. Christian affiliated businesses object to ACA coverage of the evidence based and life saving medications that make up HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) #IDSky

journals.plos.org/globalpublic... Fantastic graphic and educational tool to help combat vaccine hesitancy #IDSky

We’ve decided to end the peer review process; instead, we will just be asking random people on the street what they think

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39535749/ New research from colleagues in Addiction Medicine at #Penn sheds light on common features of xylazine wounds. A crucial step toward improving diagnosis, treatment & outcomes in the face of this growing public health crisis. #IDsky
