please sir, i can only make this comparison so many times

It is insanely obvious that Elon Musk is illegally exercising the powers of a principal officer of the United States in violation of the appointments clause

Meanwhile: Steve Smith Sr. left stunned as NFL fan pulls out receipts exposing ex-Panthers star slept with his wife

Uhh, what's up with Taylor Lorenz describing anti-trans propaganda targeted at preschool children as a children's book, "about gender"? That's like describing Atlas Shrugged as a book, "about trains." Or Lord of the Rings as a book, "about jewelry." www.usermag.co/p/scoop-ashl...

The @nba.com and @nhl.com now have accounts here. That's good. The WNBA still does not. Not good. But the strangest thing is neither of them have posted. Bluesky has 30 million+ users now and let's say with bots, a legit 25M+. Not posting but having an account? Just spectacularly odd.

Interesting thing for the President to say about a person who, according the government’s lawyers, “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself” and “only has the ability to advise the President, or communicate the President’s directives.”

I still think it's hilarious that the local art museum has a whole pamphlet for worried parents about how to explain nudity in art to children, especially since it's actually a sign that the museum is far more kid friendly than when I was a kid and the staff treated children like they didn't belong.

ROME (AP) — Vatican says Pope Francis in critical condition, suffered a long asthmatic respiratory crisis in the morning.

We talked to employees across the federal government about how they are resisting Musk and Trump. One of the funnier stories is from USDS, where some workers keep putting up a sign that reads "HATE HAS NO HOME HERE" after it's being taken down over night. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/u...

This is blackmail

I have never been able to convey just how bad maternal health is down here in the Gulf, especially for Black women. But this @mississippitoday.org report? It does it, and I hope EVERYONE reads it. mississippitoday.org/2025/02/19/m...

Children’s Hospital LA—at which there were protests co-organized by union hospital workers, and I spoke to one of the organizers in the story below—has resumed gender-affirming care for youth www.latimes.com/california/s...

Fax also works!

Trump's DOJ is preparing to put all incarcerated transgender women into men's facilities as early as next week, and according to NPR "the bureau is well aware of concerns about potential risks of assault, sexual violence and suicides"

What the what?

Say what now?

The Tesla purchase experience is unparalleled: "We are expecting a potential Tesla protest to take place at our showroom tomorrow and therefore wanted to reach out as soon as possible to see if you would like to move your appointment…"

Please please please goad Musk into flying on one of his totally safe rockets.

"A lot of powerful people don’t really grasp the full extent to which Musk is marinating in and sharing extraordinarily deranged material on the platform, sometimes hundreds of times a day." – @jwherrman.bsky.social (nymag.com/intelligence...)

Humanity created a massive tool for social control and placed it in the hands of the worst people possible techcrunch.com/2025/02/19/s...

It occurred to me that firing thousands of highly skilled, highly knowledgeable people, some of whom had access to highly secret information, and now have grievances and an urgent need for money, might be considered a security risk. Like, a big one.

Only time I ever felt like the Sarasota PD was looking for any excuse to start arresting protesters was at a trans rights protest, so this checks out.

Also a sharp reminded of how wildly Trumpists depart from the core of Anglo-American law. Not just MAGA, but the whole conservative legal movement that prepared the ground for him with their law office/law school history so profoundly at odds with actual history.

To be clear, this is a photography exhibit by a nonbinary artist who took portraits of their visibly queer friends, and it's been there since August at the art museum owned by the state of Florida, in the town where Moms for Liberty started. A whole lot of institutions need to follow that example.

this kind of shit made sense back when musk was still widely admired and seen as non-political but the most recent polling shows he's hilariously unpopular, like 10-15 points lower than Trump's own low approval ratings. People hate this motherfucker! You don't need to clear your throat first

100% and I need everyone to understand right now that there is only one solution: people need to start getting their asses kicked in public again

The United States needs millions of people doing community work. A single hero won’t save us. We will have to save ourselves, collectively 💙🫶✊

hey look our FBI Director as of 6 hours ago

Every name suggested to replace Lorne Michaels as head of @saturdaynightlive.bsky.social is at least as old as Michaels was in the late 1990s, when #SNL was almost 25 years old. Michaels was still 30 when the first #SNL aired.

The entire business model of American R1 universities is not viable without restoration of federal funding, & every individual institution pretending it can solve this problem alone is also not viable. University presidents need to be speaking out, collectively & loudly about this, in DC, right now.

Never taken a bad picture in his life I’m crying 😂

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

a lot of people want to not be held responsible for slavery and indigenous genocide but want to hold onto the generational wealth and preferential structures resulting from them. I mean, I know it's obvious but I think it should probably get said out loud a lot more often

Sure would be nice if the U.S. continued funding stuff like “vaccines for pancreatic cancer.”
