Pope Francis has appointed every new Cardinal since 2013. These guys are not rad trads. Wilson Gregory, Blaise Cupich, Joe Tobin are all in the Francis/John XXIII mold.
Isn’t he the Vicar of Christ?
He’s like gods main man on earth.
If god is calling, bro, just go.
If he knows he’s going to heavenly rewards, why try to stay at this point?
For those who think it's cool to dismiss a humanist Pope who champions human rights now being in critical condition, a reminder again of the former Hitler youth who Francis replaced.
And how another one like Benedict is waiting in the wings.
Y'all I realize Francis is flawed and has not pushed his massive, ancient, and deeply flawed institution as far as any of us would like. But he's been WAY better than his predecessors. Remember how you complained about Biden's imperfections and shit got geometrically worse? That's at stake here too.
Many poor and marginalized people look to the pope we can make fun of that or despise the church but having a not an actual Nazi guy in the job is something
Not sure where you're getting those demographics. The majority of catholics are White and older. 1/3 have a college degree. They are also geographically dispersed.
Yes, I am aware. Most users here are from the US, and it is the predominantly spoken about context. I am asking for similar data now about the global demographic now that I know it was spoken about within the global framework.
The 5 countries with the largest Catholic populations, in order of number of individuals, are Brazil, Mexico, Philippines, USA, and Congo. It is not a mostly white religion. Several extremely populous countries have large Catholic minorities, like India (1% = 14 mil) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_by_country
The good news, though it isn't much, is that Francis appointed a sizable number of cardinals who could potentially elect another progressive pope. Thankfully there are no voting machines in the Vatican that Elon's tech bro cronies can hack.
He definitely tried to make things better. I still left the Catholic Church for the Episcopal Church because the leadership of the Catholic Church in the US is mostly MAGA and listens to Trump, not the Pope.
Yes and the trad catholic contingent is ver scary. He has rebuked them and done more to welcome the lgbt community than any other pope. The possibility of a right wing pope is scary.
Isn't it often the case with elderly patients in the hospital? One day they're declared out of danger, and the next, they're fighting for their last breath..
Trump is going to send out an EO declaring himself Pope and any media organization that refuses to refer to him as Supreme Pontiff will be banned from the oval office and WH press briefings
Whether you are a catholic or not; a Christian or not; pope Francis the man did his best to care for other humans and speak out where he could. Was he perfect no. But he did more than many and as a non catholic I also appreciated him for that.
I don’t wish him harm. But I’m not going further than that either. He’s the leader of the church of oppression and abuse. They still turn a blind eye to the sexual assaults and I’d like to know what good he’s actually doing.
He wanted Trump The Anti-Christ so F*CK him. His church in this country was instrumental in his ascendance. Put EVERY priest and EVERY nun on a boat and SINK IT. Credit for the idea to the greatest Catholic EVER, the Marquis de Pombal.

There are 252 cardinals but only 138 can vote. (Under age 80)

He is not going to make it, is he
Doesn’t sound good
And how another one like Benedict is waiting in the wings.
Agree.
Just hope Trump keeps his stinky self out of Vatican business.
And I bet Cardinal Burke is in glee this afternoon.

But personally as a non-Catholic the Jesuit Francis did a lot of good things. Which means conservative Catholics hate him.
Let’s hope he gets prayers

That’s not true, look up his comments on Ukraine
I hope he croaks lmao
here is a summary of his life, the good and the controversial….and his evolution and growth as a person.

This sociopath was ok w/the Charlie Hebdo massacre.
"One Cannot Make Fun of Faith"
"I'll punch anyone who insults my mother"
He was on the side of Russia invading Ukraine.
He's a fucking cancer on society, and the soonest he's dead, the better 4 all moral things.
Benedict XVI resigned in 2013 and died December 31, 2022.
