Employed by Irish Jesuits to think about prisons and punishment. Side hustles include doctoral studies in Leuven and farming. Golden rule for life (not that one) is that the number of bikes you need is the number you currently have plus one.

I got your reply and I'm going to need less information.

www.jcfj.ie/2025/04/25/i... When we try to distill Francis’ influence on our work, a series of words come to mind: Mercy, Justice, and Encounter. Whether it is with a neighbour, a stranger, and ultimately God himself, Francis invited us to live lives of joyful expectation of rich encounters.

Delighted to share the publication of my first lead-author article! We discuss the needs & experiences of foreign national women in Irish prisons, as their narrative is often missing from research in this area. We also highlight adaptation strategies undertaken in an attempt to navigate prison life

Can't believe we're all going to be replaced by this

People scoff when I say they don't need a second car, they need a Longtail. But, well, most of yiz could use a Longtail

The hardest working person in Leuven was David Scott as he delivered a paper on 'Penal Abolitionisms' today, alongside sitting on my doctoral committee yesterday. Recording will be available shortly.

Yesterday, I had my first doctoral seminar at Leuven Institute of Criminology. My paper outlined the quantitative turn in "pains" research, and argued that it both abstracts the pain of others and blurs the ethical critique necessary.

Pope Francis’s "Urbi et Orbi" Easter speech: “How much contempt is stirred up at times towards the vulnerable, the marginalized and migrants...I appeal to all those in positions of political responsibility in our world not to yield to the logic of fear which only leads to isolation from others.”

For me, I will remember Francis as the Pope who called the Holy Family Church in Gaza every day as the city, and even the church itself, was bombed by Israel.

I was expecting the tragedy. But I didn't realize the collapse of American empire would generate so many freaking hilarious moments

been away the last week with work but I am guessing no politician or councillor spoke about this tragedy, other than with "thoughts and prayers" www.independent.ie/irish-news/g...

"four to seven months" is oddly specific

Last week at the ESC Prison Working Group in Timișoara, I presented with @mariacleary.bsky.social of @maynoothlaw.bsky.social and @aurore-vdk.bsky.social of LINC in panel on 'Specific populations, identities, and experiences.' My paper considered women's imprisonment, expansion logic, and trauma.

Prison numbers are getting even starker: - Prison population now hitting almost 5,400; - 750 more people than there are spaces; - 430 people on mattresses on floors; - Could be over 6,000 by court summer recess. www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-41...

maybe we will get counter-cyclical social housing policy this time around, lols

I checked the pew Bibles in this church and they don't have those lines from Matthew 7: "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction..." www.bbc.com/news/article...

After hearing this heartbreaking news from the weekend, JCFJ fully back and endorses this message. Urgent action needs to be taken to make active transport for all, especially our children, safe!

Unless we have experienced similar tragedy it is impossible to understand the pain that has been brought on this family in Galway today. There is no excuse for our roads and streets not being safe for children to walk and cycle along. www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2025...

desperately sad but won't change a damn thing need the Irish equivalent of 'Stop de kindermoord' yesterday

Hundreds of millions of bees, almost 80% of bees in the US, have died over he past eight months. Researchers don't know why. Here is what this means:

With no fewer than 88% of residents owning a bike, Freiburg has long been considered a cycling city. But they’ve taken that title to new heights in recent years, revealing this week that cycling now makes up one third of all trips; the highest in Germany and an impressive 43% increase since 2017. 🧵

Since Luas Cross City was finished, Dublin's Parnell St is likely one of the worst cases of redundant space for cars. It's an underused dual carriageway in the heart of the city centre with pinch points at both ends. The vast majority of people are pedestrians but footpaths are cramped.
