That's a good point.

I appreciate you explaining this. I guess I worry that Google, etc. can mislead people into just the echo chamber, so I always try to hear it from people, but I hear what you say about making the connections to do so.

Ah, that makes sense. If that's the case, then I can understand the frustration. I appreciate you taking the time to explain this to me. Thanks!

I unfortunately stumbled into this minefield today.

I fear that's sometimes where these platforms go astray. We read into the internet syntax, as you say. I'm more than happy to learn when I'm wrong, to be told if there are things I can learn. I just fear that the aggression is what pushes genuinely curious people away from getting a chance to learn.

I actually appreciate your passion, and I mean that. I don't know how else I can get that across. Judging from your profile, I agree with you on many things and side with you politically. I don't say that to pander. It just saddens me that, in trying to get some clarity, there's aggression in reply.

I mean, I can only tell you I don't. I was just raising a point and asking some questions to understand. But I fear these kind of responses is what shuts out people from being curious and having a discussion, which is what leads to the issues we're all experiencing now.

That wasn't my intention, and if so, I apologize. I raised a point and asked some questions because there is a genuine curiousity to learn. Rather than someone saying, "Here's why this is troublesome" etc. I'm told to "shut the fuck up". Again, it was just a genuine desire to understand.

Thanks for explaining. That makes a lot of sense to me and I can agree with the concern that having him on such a platform will elevate his destructive, fascist position and opinions.

I mean, I meant it. Nor do I think I'm owed it. I still appreciate your response nonetheless.

That's very true. That's a point I can agree with. I appreciate you making it without trying to assault my character. Thank you.

Forgive me for trying to ask some questions and have a conversation. I guess I came looking for it in the wrong place.

I'm not telling you to do anything. Nor would I ever want to force you to do anything. I guess what I'm trying to say is, by understanding these people, perhaps we could recognize it in someone else, while it's still developing, and interrupt it before it happens.
comment in response to

No, of course not. Obviously these problems are still rampant.
Anyway, all I'm saying is if we can try and understand why, which means getting to know the people behind these beliefs, maybe we'll get a bit better at avoiding it and mitigating it in the future.

I'm not looking to change him, but in understanding him we can learn how to avoid it in others. We thought we conquered these beliefs after WW2 and yet here we are. Why? How is it happening again? History will repeat itself unless we do what we can to learn from it as it's happens and evolves.

But here's the thing. You seem to be getting frustrated with me for asking questions. Herein lies the problem we're all facing right now. We're all divided, polarized, pushed by the swing of the pendulum. I have no beef with you. We're in this spot politically because no one wants to talk.

I agree, but I think it's a tricky grey zone. Let's say Bannon is the enemy, and given what he believes that makes sense. If we don't understand him, and WHY he believes what he believes, how can we ever defeat it and learn how to avoid it or interrupt it from developing in the future?
comment in response to
post
I would. Not because I want to highlight their platform, which I understand is a risk, but so I can understand where things went wrong, to learn how this can be avoided in the future.

I'm a liberal, but I'm also Canadian, so take my view on US politics with a grain of salt. We live in divisive times. Has Bannon done plenty of terrible things? Yep. But if Liberal and Conservative politicians can no longer cross the line to try and understand each other, then we're all screwed.

The Method, baby.
But who knows. He goes deep when he researches and preps for a role, so I'm sure they stumbled on some amazing stuff together.
Funny sidebar - When I get a cranky and particular, my partner calls me "Phantom" in reference to the film and the "conflict at breakfast" scene.

I've heard it a lot of interviews that PTA and DDL worked on it together to some degree. In one in particular PTA thinks DDL should've had a writing credit on the film.

Right?! What's crazy is I found it in storage, where it must have been for at least a decade, and it still turned on. Somehow the battery was still charged.

I really enjoyed the Halo 4 campaign. It was the first in a while, maybe even since the first game, that I connected with.
Currently playing occasional matches in Marvel Rivals, and have been enjoying Advance Wars: Days of Ruin on my childhood DS Lite.

I think I agree with @kaozclown.bsky.social. There's a mass audience that comes with the Super Bowl. HBO has an audience but a more selective one. I think they'd be preaching to the choir.
What makes me wonder, though, is if the performance was lost on the more conservative audience members.

No, I don't think so. It gives it a platform, though, and I think that's impressive. Not for the event, but the artist. To use that opportunity to say something.

Oh, man, I'm a nerd for all this stuff. Just got a spy series of my own optioned, but different tone. Slow burn, character-driven. John le Carré meets Mad Men. Lots of real world research went into it.
Can't wait to see what you do with the genre!

I think it being a sequel to CR hobbled its potential praise. I also firmly believe that, without QoS and its stylized cinematography and editing, and how it broke from the traditional tone and style of the other films, that it laid the groundwork for Skyfall's stylistic success. Anyway - end rant!
comment in response to

So right about Skyfall. Easily the best.
I think QoS is underrated. It's pure Fleming, down to the scene where Craig talks Camille through the cost of revenge. It's lean and mean, and it deserves another look. The Opera sequence is also fantastic.
