Have you tried SugarBee? They're my current fav. (No shade against Cosmic Crisp -- those are really good, too!)

I've often said there are two things that will send most vehicle drivers into an incandescent rage: * Bicycle riders who don't follow 100% of the rules to the letter 100% of the time. * Other vehicle drivers who DO follow 100% of the rules to the letter 100% of the time.

It's life in the Pacific NorthWET!

It was a mixed bag. No rain as we gathered at the start, then then rain hit just as we started (because of course it did). We had intermittent rain showers through the morning until about 2:00pm-ish when the skies opened up. Then we got drenched. We looked like drowned rats at the finish!

A bit, but less than I expected.

I misread that as "Great #cycling over to Seattle this morning". The photos look like they could be from the greater Seattle area, and the weather looks spot-on. Then I checked the Strava link. Looks like a great ride!

A common mistake. Cars don't buy stuff, people do.

Was the Super Bowl this weekend? I don't really follow baseball.

BRRRRRR!! Last weekend I biked in -8C and I thought that was cold, but -22C? Yowza. Well done!

Yep, it was cold. My GPS recorded a low temperature of -8C (~18F) along West Snoqualmie Valley Road and (briefly) along Ben Howard Road. No wonder my water bottles froze. www.strava.com/activities/1...

The typos somehow make the rage even more palpable.

If you use your laptop while sitting on a couch: A lap desk. 100x more comfortable than resting the laptop on your lap. Also helps keep the laptop fan inlet clean.

When I was a student pilot at Boeing Field one flight instructor disappeared one summer. I never flew with her, but one day I just happened to notice she was gone. She reappeared in the fall -- she spent the summer in Idaho flying a P-2 Neptune fire bomber for the Forest Service. Certified bad-ass!

IIRC it only took me three years to do that, so "yay me".

In the end, four of us managed to complete the challenge. 10 years ago today Mimi Boothby (Don's widow) held a dinner to celebrate our achievement. Front row: Narayan Krishnamoorthy (instigator) Hugh Kimball (finisher) Back row: Me (finisher) Mimi Joe Llona (finisher) Mick Walsh (finisher)

January 25, 2014 a group of us set out on our first ride of the challenge: RUSA Permanent #1450 "Snohomish-Issaquah-Mt Vernon" 300K. Various riders came and went throughout the year. December 13, 2014 a smaller group of us set out to finish the challenge, riding Permanent #1450 again.

Initial thoughts: * 300K per month? Is he crazy? * 300K? At the time I ridden that distance exactly twice in my life. * Who is this "Don" person, and why would he suggest something so ridiculous? * Three. Hundred. K. It hurts to even think about it.

In 2014 one of my SIR buddies, Narayan, proposed an idea: Get a group together to ride at least 300K each month. Let's complete Don's challenge in his honor. One additional requirement (above and beyond riding 300K): each rider must consume at least one slice of pie or pastry during each ride.

I started riding with the Seattle International Randonneurs (SIR) in 2013, so I never had the chance to meet Don. From what I've heard about him -- lover of long bike rides, lover of pie and pastries, twisted sense of humor, etc -- I know we would have been friends.
