It literally takes me 2 min more to add alt text to my posts.
2-5min of your time is nothing compared to being inclusive!

My school life bridged three different systems 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇨🇦, so my knowledge is extremely patchy.

I think it’s my third run at it. I’m a little averse to historical fiction, or, more precisely, to fiction about historical events. I’m always wary of learning false facts from the novelisation. I did really like it though, once I got into it. There was more humour than I expected too.

Current reads: also Braiding Sweetgrass, Wolf Hall, and Remarkably Bright Creatures.

I’m similar. Always have fiction and non-fiction going on, but often a couple of fiction at the same time. I don’t think they correlate to yours, but there is probably something similar, maybe classic/literary, contemporary/light, and non-fiction, with all the fluidity of genre that books involve.

So much of pricing old things is what is in currently in fashion. Yes, workmanship and rarity, but taste trends have a lot to do with it.

Oh! The cerulean is gorgeous. My in-laws stuff is a real mix. She was as happy with a cute figure from a thrift shop, as a rare piece of carnival glass she hunted for several years. The believed in paying for quality within your budget, and also that a thing's value is not defined only by its price.

I want to respect their treasures, and find things good homes, but I also don’t want to be selling their multiple collections bit by bit for the next 30 years! It’s on an island too, so I will have to stick with online mostly.

It’s going to be such a balancing act. They were serious carnival glass collectors but I don’t think it’s as in right now as it used to be. For a bunch of reasons, I’ll have to be careful of how much time and energy I give it.

My job in the coming year will be to identify and try and sell what the family doesn’t want to keep. So I’ll be learning what I can.

I think it’s just a decorative objet. I may have seen it listed somewhere as a fruit bowl, but I don’t know if that’s right. I know it’s by Walther & Sohne.

I just recently learned about uranium glass as we cleared my mother-in-law’s house. Look at this beast.

Most cats I know are surprisingly good at using pillows - makes me feel bad for those in the wild. Something squishy to rest a chin or cheek upon?

I love the “notify me” alert even though I think I’ve been notified exactly once. It gives me a sense of control over at least something.

Have you read The Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley? They might have that in audiobook as it’s been out longer. It’s just as good and officially book one, although it’s not necessary to read it before Warrior Girl Unearthed.

Ah, nice! It looks good too. One for the tbr.

It was a stormy night and the wind and rain made it hard to sleep, so I finished Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley. Wonderful 5* read to end the year. Reading Braiding Sweetgrass now. I won’t finish this year, but it’s a beautiful bridge to the new year.

Reading it now. I knew it would be wonderful, but it is so richly, deeply wonderful.

And while we are on the subject, the term 'dude' is fucking gendered when used as a pronoun or form of address.

I love the genre challenge, but I have a bad habit of not finishing non-fiction, so to my shame, I’ve completed all the fiction but am missing 4 of the NF prompts. And my personal 12 NF book challenge sits at 4.

Ha. That called me out. I think I’m imagining somehow finishing three “currently reading” books in the next 21 hours in my 2023 time zone.

I still say “book on tape” if I don’t watch myself so you know I’m old.

Reading it now and I’m transfixed. The system for the magic makes so much sense with what is lost in translation.
