This morning’s sunshine has reminded me of the word ‘philocaly’: a love of beauty, even in the smallest things.

Two years ago today. Looking back through my photos for a glimpse of serenity.

Word of the Day is ‘uhtcearu’ [ucht-kay-aru, with the 'ch' as in the Scottish ‘loch']: Old English for ‘the sorrow before dawn', when you lie awake in the darkness and worries crowd your mind.

James Webb Space Telescope’s infrared view of the Pillars of Creation

Star-filled portrait of the Pillars of Creation taken by the James Webb Space Telescope

It's trans day of remembrance where we remember all of our siblings we've lost this year to violence and hate. We know we've lost at least 350 trans and nonbinary people have been murdered in the last year. We honor the dead and fight like hell for the living.

I would like to speak up today for the trans community. You see, I know a bit of what it’s like to be politically scapegoated. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, suddenly anyone in America who had any amount of Japanese ancestry became suspect. Politicians preyed upon ignorance and fear. /1
