Reminds me of a short story of Arepo and the god of small nothignesses.
“I’m of the fallen leaves,” it said. “The worms that churn beneath the earth. The boundary of forest and of field. The first hint of frost before the first snow falls. The skin of an apple as it yields beneath your teeth...
Finding joy and beauty in the small things is such an important survival skill. Even in dark times, everything is better when we can still appreciate brightness.
A lovely word. Morning sunshine is not merely beautiful, but stimulates the production of vitamin D, serotonin and dopamine. It's a free feel-good fuel for the body and mind.
That's got *two* of my favourite moments of etymology: the moment I realised that "ευχαριστώ" was the same word as "eucharist", and when I found out that "πολύ" is cognate with German "viel".
No sunshine here in Devon(no surprise there), but the last few days there has been a lot more bird song. A small change but one which is both beautiful and hopeful.
Absolutely. It has a unique heritage, language and culture and over the years has been dismissively treated by Westminster governments as only fit for second homes for the rich and as a holiday destination. The upcoming amalgamation with Devon CC into some mega authority is just wrong.
Same here in Aalborg, north Denmark. Gloom grey drizzle. Then a ray of sunshine pierces the sky for a while. And birdsong in the early morning. Promises spring will come
Would love to visit that part of Denmark. Following a Norwegian drama at the moment on UK TV called Fatal Crossing that is actually set in North Zealand. Looks so natural and beautiful.
'Last winter, apricity was the only thing that kept my spirits up during the long wait for the AA after my car broke down suddenly in the third lane.' (True story!)
I do this every time I’m in a large dirty city. It helps to keep perspective. Thank you for sharing this word today. Tomorrow, I’ll find something small and beautiful to appreciate. 😊
Technically sunshine isn't a "small thing" tho. It allows life as we know in our planet. (Vulcanic activity also fuels life to a less significant degree.)
This morning, a robin landed on a sprig sticking out of the side of a hedge just 4 feet away from me and sang its little heart out for a while. It was magic.

Enjoy the Little Things
Seriously, though, this is a lovely word and I’ll be adding it to my de stress/grounding monologue. Thank you 🙏
...and watch how people react to it...not understanding what it means.
Thank you, Susie! ❤️
Meh.
Thanks for the lovely word, a great lift to start the day 🙏
(Etymologically, Phil has a lot to answer for!)
Thanks very much for being you Susie, ever since I first saw a video of '..cats does countdown' you have been a ongoing source of joy for me!
Nil apropos, is 'gadzooks' actually an English word?
Love of the beautiful.
Much appreciated :)
Hope all is well with you!

It definitely applies to me.
Like that I can remember it and use it correctly when I play scrabble online!
