NEW: A searing editorial in the The Kyiv Independent. “It’s time to say it plainly. America’s leadership has switched sides in the war. The American people have not, and they should speak up. “A president just disrespected America in the Oval Office. It wasn’t Zelensky.” @kyivindependent.com

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!

The schedule for making the flu vaccine is strict. Using WHO data (the WHO we just left), vaccine strains are selected at the March FDA mtg that was just canceled. Vaccine manufacturing then begins in June, raising serious doubts the vaccine will be ready next fall.🎁 www.nytimes.com/2025/02/26/u...

Several good things are happening according r/fednews so I am going to drop them here. If federal workers are fighting back, how much more us? A thread/

I loved this take on burnout from @edyong209.bsky.social. I'm sure other therapists or healthcare professionals will feel the same. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

another great example along with Wired and Teen Vogue of how real journalism these days can be a lot braver at outlets where no one is trying to get in good with the White House press secretary they’re out here with us, reporting on what’s happening to us all, instead of trying to get inside access

Every vaccine already requires informed consent by law. This is pure antivaxx disinformation, now coming from the CDC.

Yessssssssss!!!!!!

i want to see the research on strikes effecting change explained for a wide wide audience!

🧵 I’d bet that’s why DOGE is digging into the treasury. With 1.7 million excess deaths from the COVID19 virus, most deaths were people 65 & older who paid a lot of money into the Social Security fund; payments have been reduced by $294 billion. Here’s the math: fortune.com/2025/02/19/a...

Heyyyy! While I’ve got your attention. @drprofb.bsky.social and I co-facilitate this weekly Zoom meeting for sober folks in academia.

And they were going to destroy 10s of millions of tests? How is that possibly efficient, let alone prudent?

“Trump’s orders are about controlling ideas that can be discussed in the classroom, limiting & censoring faculty & students, & codifying into law the prejudices of the past. This nation has overcome attempts at authoritarianism before. We will do so again.” www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...

In a dramatic confrontation last week, University of Utah President Taylor Randall accused faculty members of acting beyond the scope of their authority when they tried to raise concerns about his top academic administrator.

“As professors, we uphold the values of critical thinking and of taking action in defense of one’s principles as central to the purposes of higher education and vital to the health of our democracy,” write Kendall Gerdes and Sydney Cheek-O’Donnell.

Under fascism, no one is safe. Universities stayed quiet as the admin targeted DEI & foreign aid, censored research, etc. Now, they face devastating cuts to indirect cost rates, threatening research & operations. Silence won’t protect institutions. It won’t protect people; it never does.

😱 okay, this is pretty playfully written, and/but it makes an *excellent* point. university leaders can either use their power or lose it right now.

Project 2025's actual manuscript is dull, so Seth Meyers got a bunch of people together to make it into the scariest comic book you've ever read. Apparently, a lot of people didn't read it because... here we are... stopproject2025comic.org?fbclid=IwY2x...

yes fascists are trying to dismantle civil society but also the world we live in includes this:

Scientists and journalists need to figure out right quick how to explain to the average person how a massive change in research indirects will impact the medical care they and their children get (eg at the local children’s hospital), the education their children will get, the price of tuition, etc.

Again, another day has gone by & the presidents of major research universities are deafeningly silent in the face of existential threats because of the potential end of federal funding. It's like watching the failure to stand up to Scott Walker & the Wisconsin GOP for a decade, on a national scale.
