Someone in the decision loop understands the danger of creating the worst optics possible centered on some of the greatest domestic patriots* in our living memory. *The actual selfless ones, not the cosplayer crowd.

Bentz is beginning his third term as the rep for Oregon’s 2nd, a district he’s won 59.9-36.9, 67.5-32.4, and 63.9-32.8. These kinds of reactions from safe district town halls like Bentz and McCormick’s (Ga-7) will scare to death any actual thinking members of the House of Representatives.

Congressional incumbency rates haven’t dipped below 85 percent this century in the House, and 79 percent in the Senate. Almost nothing prevents members of congress from getting re-elected. Except death, retirement, or not showing up.

And the accumulated train wrecks by Monday will do the job, too. bsky.app/profile/kenn...

With TikTok an easy and prominent info source, esp for young people, these #medialiteracy tips from @anneo.bsky.social are worth passing forward. theconversation.com/for-you-what...

The state-level stuff is a great long-term idea. It shows getting work done in places where the process is still effective. It impacts people on an immediate, ground-level basis. And, critically, it helps the perception of deepening their bench.

This is from Ohio. Friends, if you’ve ever met anyone who took down a “Whites Only” sign and seen the look on their face, still decades on, when they described doing it … you know what’s right.

And we got finger-wagged by a New England journo "expert" for not staying in our lane and sticking to our knitting (his words) and leaving hard stuff to (paywalled) NYT and Wapo. So we were right, and we did the right thing, and we didn't need anyone's permission to make our own news decisions.

The winds are shifting. Some in the legacy media will be the last to notice.

If only each agency and supervisor had to conduct regular performance evaluations of colleagues and coworkers, and we had some method or method to record those evaluations, for distribution and analytical purposes. And if only we then used those systems. Archived them, read them, honored them.

For all academics and educators #academicsky #geosky

There ought to be a dozen stories every day on our major news websites about the essential workers who have been fired by Musk.

A number of federal agencies, from HHS to the USDA, have laid off employees only to rescind those terminations days later. An expert says it "suggests something about mismanagement of government."

Our paper shouldn’t have to be relevant, but, here we are: —> Our results highlight the primary importance of vaccination for reducing the risk of measles transmission among students —> addt’l and significant risk reduction can be achieved thru enhancing building ventilation and filtration systems

GDRP and various other privacy/preferences should be challenged at the BROWSER level, not the EVERY SITE I NEED TO VISIT level.

I feel for Wongus and those like him. My grandfather died in a plane crash. Three generations on, the families and the community where it came down are still working through it. Many that survived, or rushed in to help in small-town Georgia, had their life’s work changed because of one April day.

The sky cleared up today. #SmallWins are #HugeWins

I’d love to know the data of how users watch videos. Here are two @bsky.app screencaps of a post from @kim.senate.gov, full phone screen and video playing in a post. Note the composition of the shot. Note where the captioning lands. Knowing how people watch videos would be useful for creators.

They’re cooked. They know it.

I've leaned into calling Birmingham "The City Built to Change the South" in many recent conversations. I've also talked about @bhamwatch.bsky.social as more of a "60 Minutes" or "Sunday Morning" type of publication as we move forward

It’s journalistic malpractice — to the extent that’s a thing any more — to talk about this Ed Martin letter without clarifying that every expert, other than administration hacks, thinks that Garcia’s statement was not remotely plausibly a true threat. It’s simply ludicrous.

People tend to believe disinformation for at least two reasons: 1) To alleviate anxiety when they feel confused or sense they lack control 2) To offer self-identity from affirmation and belonging to an "in group." youtu.be/uzHgtTN7JSo?...

It's past midnight, and Senate Republicans are voting NO against every Democratic-led amendment to PROTECT HEALTH CARE for our families. Pay close attention: Republicans are working to push kids off Medicaid to pass MORE tax cuts for billionaires.

Journalistic dishonesty at the Daily Beast: Call it what it is, or shut up.

That’ll sell.

As someone who loves to hate on both self driving cars & the push for personal protection for cyclists and pedestrians instead of building safe infrastructure, this news is so validating

Yeah yeah, let me know when they change the programming on the Fox properties.

A child, someone’s baby girl, killed herself because of immigration taunts. “Bullying will never be tolerated.” Find out which Texan in Abbott’s administration said it, with no sense of irony or self awareness whatsoever. www.newsweek.com/jocelynn-roj...

Best guess is you won’t see a lot of stories like this; there won’t be many town hall formats in any Republican’s foreseeable future.

I was talking with @acnatta.bsky.social about a thread I saw earlier this week about retired folks suggesting they would take on some volunteer journalism work. That’s people meeting the moment! Andre suggested this program, if it’s active in your area. www.citybureau.org/documenters/

Does he know anyone in Congress he can tell about this?

Friends, those are Georgia Republicans. North Georgia Republicans.

Not ready for nationalist USA chants, even at sporting events, as we lurch further into whatever the hell in a Tesla-branded golf cart.

Huh. That can’t be good. (For ESPN.) www.nytimes.com/athletic/614...

Black History Month.

If you listen to the patter you will never, ever, win three-card monty.

I studied campaign rhetoric. In the right district, Sara Nelson could probably get elected to Congress, and be a potent force, on the strength of this line of rhetoric alone.
