So friggin cold out, it would be a perfect day to get meat sweats

Remember when Google's mantra was "Do no harm" yeah it was stupid to think that would ever last....

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.

MAGA/GOP: We represent the true Americans. It’s the liberals who are the elitists Also MAGA/GOP: What’s wrong with giving the entire US Treasury with all our tax money to the world’s richest man with no strings attached???

The thing to learn from Kendrick Lamar last night is that when you run over your enemies, it’s not a bad idea to put the car in reverse and run over them a few more times to send a message to anyone else who’s thinking of coming for you next.

The thing (haha) that's selling me on the new MCU Thing is that you're seeing EMB's eyes behind the CG, but they're spread way too far apart for his skull to be human shaped. That is a very effective use of that tool and an effect that you couldn't achieve using only a practical costume.

Look, I don't want to put "The Constitution" on the list with "Santa Claus" of things they lied to us about as kids, but unless I see some checks and balances kick the fuck in, what choice do I have? Either we have the rule of law or we do not. Which is it, Everyone Besides Elon?

Before folks start comparing this to European autocracies, pause and ask why so many folks - Black and white - didn’t know about the Tulsa Race Massacre. Or the Wilmington Coup. Or the Colfax Massacre. Or the Elaine, Arkansas massacre. Erasure has been a key tactic of white supremacy. Right here.

One thing that’s crystal clear, that Democrats refuse to admit, and no progress will be made until it stops, is that the whole conservative movement will break any laws if there is no enforcement mechanism.

Now that they're $8 a dozen and rising, it's a really shitty time to become addicted to Japanese 7-Eleven egg salad sandwiches.

The thing that Republican voters will never admit is that they’re the most politically empowered people in the world. They’re the ruling party in the most powerful country in the world. The only reason their lives suck is because they keep voting for it.

Fwiw, I’m grateful that the alternate history retro futurism of FANTASTIC 4 feels tactile. I don’t know if that will help sell it to audiences, but it does make the world feel less stage bound or something that exists outside of a green screen.

Is it just me or does it seem like Bruce Willis' career can be split into 2 phases: Before the cab scene in PULP FICTION and after

Batman needs his colorful rogue's gallery and the cosmic-level hijinks of the Justice League because otherwise he's just a fascist.

Seeing a lot of variations on "Trump voter instantly regrets their vote" videos from progressive/liberal YTers and I just see it as distracting copium. 3.5 years from now, when it matters, all of that regret will be Biden's fault (or whomever is running as a D) in their squishy minds.

The way I look at it, something had to pop the AI bubble. It’s wasteful and has no real value. If it was China that were the ones to do it, I mean, that didn’t come out of nowhere.

I wonder how long the lawlessness of the Trump administration will be buoyed by federal tax dollars being slipped under the table to his personal finances. And is there anything we can do as citizens to prevent it? We all know elected Democrats are completely incapable of meeting the moment.

Immigrant round-ups as entertainment is Verhoeven levels of dystopia

The mixed/negative SECTION 31 reviews aren't encouraging...

Musk speaking to the far right German party, the AfD, today. Best picture angle, ever! 😂

Whatever my governor can do to resist having Trump's personal SS coming into our state and wreaking havoc is what he should be doing

Ted Chiang is an expert in computer technology, and the best SF writer I have ever read. This essay from last August is brilliant and convincing: www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

Switch 2 looks nice and all, but even Nintendo can’t make me like teal and orange as a color combo.

This is a hilarious way to say “we haven’t figured out how to make AI do anything useful”

I might be alone in preferring how Criterion and Kino Lorber handle their business. They might not give you all the extras like lobby cards and steelbooks, but they also don’t use that as a reason to charge you 3-4x of what you paid for the blu-ray.

One of my favourite things anyone has ever said about art. You'll be missed, David. 🌹

I’m so glad we got TWIN PEAKS THE RETURN before David Lynch passed.

It’s not about that, but I was not expecting season 3 of SUPERMAN & LOIS to keep me radicalized against the US health care system.

I appreciate that they are releasing a new season of REACHER out every calendar year. It’s only 8 episodes but the cadence is almost quaint. I hope the yearly pace isn’t pushing the lead actor too hard.

I think the reason why DLSS' use of AI doesn't offend me is because it uses actual game data made by the artists and engineers to enhance the graphics performance at lower cost. It isn't theft.

I would spend an embarrassing amount of money for a complete DS9 series blu-ray set if Paramount would bother scanning and remastering (rerendering?) the whole show.

If it wasn’t clear before, performative progressive politics from corporate America is as deep as this AI bot’s skin color.

This gets at a thing I'm trying to write about right now, which is that norms are shifting faster than our ability to talk about them. Like, older generations are still saying "double-check what AI tools tell you", but WHERE are younger people supposed to double-check things? In print?

I should start a sugar-free chewing gum review channel on YT and call it PURE IMASTICATION

There was always something off or sus about Cenk Uyger before he ripped his face mask off post-election but now it’s just good that he’s come out and we can see where his convictions really stand.

Every second that Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop and Pugh’s Yelena Bolova share onscreen in HAWKEYE is next level delightful. Being back in NY, this feels like Xmas to me.

Generative AI mostly not delivering on its lofty promises, and basically making everything worse isn’t a huge shock when you talk to programmers, who are largely unaware of, or are disinterested in examining their own biases. That said DLSS is still super cool (and the only good use of AI so far).

3 minute trailers is too much. The SUPERMAN promo is more of a full trailer but with teaser aspirations. On the one hand I think Zaslav is the worst, on the other this looks way better to me than any of the Snyder films made under previous management.

THIS WAS ALWAYS THE PLAN. The CEOs know exactly what's up and they're falling in line immediately.

The AI madness is so far out of control that "Our product wrote a completely false news alert and credited a real news source" doesn't even rate a corporate comment, let alone an ashamed apology and pulling the product www.bbc.com/news/article...
