Melanie Joly does a great job in this interview. I myself was so frustrated with Amanpour’s seeming incredulity. No. Attacking our economy and our sovereignty is not a joke. Yes. This is the end of an era. I am so impressed that Joly kept her cool. I don’t think I could have done so.

Akim Aliu has some strong words about PK Subban. x.com/Dreamer_Aliu...

It takes a special kind of politician to do what Scott Moe did today. Announcing yourself as the worst kind of surrender monkey mere hours before a lame-duck PM negotiated a far better deal than the one you urged everyone to meekly accept takes real talent. Top shelf.

Getting out of the immediate moment of crisis was always a prerequisite. But we're a very dumb country if we allow this Sword of Damocles to continue to be hung over us. Keep buying Canadian, keep diversifying trade, keep thinking about a world with a less reliable America. Let's learn something.

For those Canadians cancelling streaming services (you know why) don’t sleep on the free BC based www.knowledge.ca. Lots of great content

My 2025 hobby is helping my pals de-centre tech from their lives. Acquire CDs, records, DVDs, paper books, reference books, magazines, dictionaries, etc. Go to the library! Going analog is a small way to stop relying on tech bro monsters & helps preserve knowledge they're literally deleting.

Hey, @nytimes.com. Go fuck yourselves.

This. Trump’s actions have nothing to do with fentanyl or migrants. They are pure acts of aggression intent on forcing submission by a sovereign nation. This is war. The US is now a failed state. Any Canadians intent on appeasement need to give their head a shake. Vive le Canada! 🇨🇦

🇨🇦 I urge you to grow a vegetable garden this year if you can. 🌱

This is not a trade dispute. It's a declaration of war on Canada with the weapon being 25 per cent tariffs that will devastate our economy and standard of living. This is not the behaviour of a friend, a partner or ally. The United States is none of these right now.

BREAKING NEWS: CDC orders mass retraction and revision of submitted research across all science and medicine journals. Banned terms must be scrubbed. Goes beyond MMWR +other CDC pubs. Applies to research already submitted to top medical journals. Take a look. open.substack.com/pub/insideme...

Straight-up Orwellian.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro's full post ordering an increase of import tariffs on U.S. goods, says he doesn't really like traveling to the U.S. because it's “a bit boring” and invokes the ancestors

What’s good for Canada is good for Alberta.

The internet was a mistake.

Meta is deleting links to Pixelfed, a decentralized, open source Instagram competitor that has had skyrocketing signups in recent days: www.404media.co/meta-is-bloc...

I honestly think this is the sort of blunt rhetoric we need from the Opposition in Alberta. Don't accept the premise of the UCP's absurd spin and then hit the reason right on bullseye. They are fucking assholes and they don't give a shit about a single Albertan who isn't a major donor.

When discussing things, e.g. in energy and climate, that need to be done by 2040: That's not the distant future anymore. It's as far away from today as 2010 is.

The vacuum of leadership standing up for Canada is so severe that I’m now (sharp intake of breath) sharing a Doug Ford clip? The threat of recession caused by tariffs cannot be understated. Our federal leaders need to get serious. To start, publish a list of retaliatory tariffs. Project strength.

Sitting down to compose a hopeful message for 2025 is a tough ask given the year we’ve just had. Even glib sentiments are hard to come by. The defeat of pro-democracy forces in the US presidential election still weighs like a heavy anchor on my attempts to move on. 1/11

If you watch something today please take time to watch my thoughts on the crisis facing Canadian democracy. We are in deeply uncertain times and parliament is failing to step up beyond dumbed down partisanship. Democracy is not meeting the crisis of the time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHPL...

46 years ago today, dozens of turkeys met their unfortunate demise in a Cincinnati parking lot. WKRP's Les Nessman was on the scene that fateful day.

Difficult to describe what a dangerous moment we are in. The owner of Twitter/richest man in the world/closest adviser to the next US president is promoting a far-right Tommy Robinson (!) documentary to his 200 million followers. This is the mainstreaming of violent, Islamophobic fascism.

Pay attention to how coverage of Trump is changing. Pay attention to how entertainment changes. There are lessons to learn here about how capitalism works and what is real and what isn’t.

NEW: The great Trump-Musk crackdown is coming. And it will hit hard & fast. Journalists will be first. But everyone else is next. I urge you to read my 20 lessons in How to Survive the Broligarchy, inspired by & featuring the great @timothysnyder.bsky.social 1/ www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

There are currently only 22 films streaming on Netflix made before 1980 and not a single one made before 1960, with the oldest film on the platform currently being PSYCHO. I know I’m a broken record but: buy physical media, support your local library, etc etc

This needs to be watched by every Canadian.

So badass. I've watched this video so many times today. 😂

I know they have to be diplomatic about it, but as a Canadian it would be nice to hear something from our government that assured us they are watching these U.S. cabinet announcements and taking the necessary precautions.

Hi everyone. The Onion, with the help of the Sandy Hook families, has purchased InfoWars. We are planning on making it a very funny, very stupid website. We have retained the services of some Onion and Clickhole Hall of Famers to pull this off. I can't wait to show you what we have cooked up.

The Guardian is abandoning Twitter (X) "We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives... This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform"
