You cannot respectability politics your way to liberation. There is no way to be so apologetic about your humanity that bigots will accept it. You can only push and push and push until you break through.

As long as you don’t threaten the state—or the state doesn’t decide you’ve threatened it because you’re the wrong race, religion, sexual orientation, gender presentation, or if you’re friends with or related to people who meet these criteria—you will go about your day.

it has nothing to do with muscle mass or bone density or height or hormones or anything like that. its about not wanting to lose to someone you see as beneath you. and that's it. that's the whole issue.

Not defending the most vulnerable groups makes everyone else *more* vulnerable, not less.

I just read the sequel in January and it was SO GOOD. Heavy on anger and grief, though.

This sounds like Cassandra Khaw. Hammers on Bone is weird, Lovecraftian vibes. The All- Consuming World is like queer, feminist body- horror adventure. I absolutely adored both of them.

The other in the "sapphic trifecta," She Who Became The Sun and its sequel. Complex plots, engaging characters, very genderfuck.

On that same vein, The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri. More queer epic fantasy with similar anti- colonial vibes. I really loved the weirdness of the plant magic too.

I saw someone else recommend The Unbroken by CL Clark and I would definitely second that. That was one of my favorites from my year of reading f/f. The sequel is equally good and I'm eagerly awaiting the last in the trilogy.

Fireheart Tiger, a short piece by Aliette de Bodard, but my favorite of hers. Anti- colonialism, family drama, and leaving an abusive relationship for a healthier one, all woven in to one neat little package.

The Perfect Assassin, first in the Chronicles of Ghadid series. Queernorm setting, featuring ace, lesbian, and pan protagonists. Philosophical characters and lots of fighting undead. Fun and made me care deeply about the characters.

Some of my faves:
The Unspoken Name duology by AK Larkwood. Incredibly queer, epic in scale, excellent take on religion in fantasy, featuring a woman burning down the world for her girlfriend.
