US stock markets fell sharply after an economic report showed American consumers are growing increasingly fearful of price increases and how President Donald Trump's tariffs could reignite the inflation crisis.

Breaking News: Stocks tumbled as investors reacted to concerns about the economy and tariffs, erasing almost all gains since President Trump’s inauguration.

The short version for those of you still hiding under your pillows: Reports of Trump’s “honeymoon” were greatly exaggerated to begin with; his approval numbers are historically flaccid; and the public generally hates a lot of what’s he doing right now. open.substack.com/pub/charlies...

Sheryl Crow: “My parents always said you are who you hang out with. There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla. Money donated to NPR, which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes the truth will…find its way to those willing to know [it].”

Dear Congress, Pass immigration reform. Bills were agreed to last year, so no need to reinvent the wheel. Stop grabbing employees off the streets. Taking employees from local businesses will only hurt our economy. Stop frightening our residents with military presence. Do your job - pass a bill.

ICE is arresting people off the streets in our city today. My heart is heavy and my anger is deep. The part about only going after “violent criminals” was a lie as we suspected - they were kitchen staff in local restaurants.

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

This is a problem…

The world in 2025. Hundreds of thousands of Germans oppose neo-fascism. The top aide to the president of the United States supports it. apnews.com/article/germ...

Two letters from different groups of senators call for answers from the Trump administration about pauses in scientific communications and funding.

He paid his much in taxes??

I have no problem with 25-year-old DOGE apparatchik Marko Elez being fired. But Elon Musk has said things as bad as Mr. Elez, and more often and more consequentially. The DOGE fish rots from the head down. So the question is: Why is it ok that Musk himself is a "special government employee"?

"One theme in the young DOGEbros’ rampage through the federal government—taking over offices, demanding access to hypersensitive computer systems, threatening civil servants—is their combination of blithering ignorance and swaggering self-assurance." www.thebulwark.com/p/why-elon-w...

Gaza, Greenland, Panama Canal, Canada…who else am I missing that he’s suggested we “take over”? This is dangerous and embarrassing.

This is horrific and embarrassing. Why isn’t Congress stepping in?

Heard from a reliable source that an email went out from a federal office saying that any emergency firefighter mentioning global warming, climate change, etc, when asked about fires, will lose their job immediately.

The main office of the US Agency for International Development in Washington was unexpectedly closed Monday and workers were emailed shortly after midnight that they should not come in, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

Good lord…

This is terrifying if true. Where the *<#& is Congress??

If only we had a body, one with democratic legitimacy and powers conferred by a Constitution, that had the authority to overrule a president who seeks to impose arbitrary tariffs and deport people who fled here to escape oppression. It could be called the Congress of the United States.

Gotta downsize government so we can pay for all this over priced deportation…

The tax code needs an overhaul…yet somehow we’ve put those benefiting the most at the helm, assuring it won’t happen. Thanks to HCR for continuing to point out the travesty that too many don’t believe or want to know.

This amounts to the most significant data leak in cyber history. Private individuals in the data business now have access to your Social Security information. This violates privacy laws in every state. Hopefully, state AGs will file suit & pursue criminal charges. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/01/u...
