Assuming "best year of.." it's tough, but I'd go Gilbert (counting his best year as yet to come), Freddy Garcia, Moyer, Taijuan, Leake - with the chalk 54321 choices. No idea how they rank via WAR etc, but I was a big fan of Taijuan and Leake

Are you a Severance fan? (if not, why not?!) - I was just thinking that Petey would be a good name for a dog :)

It's the only Apple TV show I remember where the characters don't use iPhones. Not a coincidence - there are too many Lumon/Apple comparisons already!

I think Irving still has tricks up his sleeve, hang in there!

Every episode this season has been markedly better than the previous one - I'm nervous e5 will be meh, but preparing to be blown away yet again!

All fall, all we heard was that the senile old guy was doing nothing all day long, and now suddenly everything’s suddenly still his fault?

Seattle is lucky to have Mariners ownership

kind of mad I spelled "devastation" wrong, ngl

Lots of the effects of these cuts aren't going to be divisible by red states or blue states. Higher prices for food, medical care, etc. will affect consumers across the board, and much of the damage done won't be immediately apparent. The devestation will be long lasting and across the board.

If a military operation was performed without proper authorization, then a judge should rule against it. If a prosecutor made up "evidence" to gain a conviction, then yes a judge also needs to rule, and if the executive oversteps its bounds, they should be held accountable by the courts.

TBH the only "significant shakeup" in this is that Dave Sims is gone. The writing has been on the wall for a while that Blowers would pull back, and all of Angie/Buhner/Roland-Smith are or have been part of the broadcast team already. Good news: more Goldy and Angie, the rest is meh.

What I'm hoping for is a positive fun differential this year! Even when we were winning last year it was mostly painful to watch. Just give me 2.5 hrs of escapism fun and thrills each night, I'm mad all day, don't need to be mad all evening too! #Mariners #GoMs

… instead of owing Robby Ray $25M for the next 2 yrs

I think there’s plenty of time. Run it back, and either Servais/DeHart were holding the offense back or make a trade in June/at the deadline. If Hoerner becomes available I’m still open for a Castillo trade, but I’m happy to bet on Julio/Garver/Crawford being better.

How much do you think the narrative would change if the Mariners had won two more games in either of the last 2 years, where we'd be saying "playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years."

April is def the worst month of the season (enough to drag the numbers down? that's what I'm wondering). On avg September begins to be cooler and damp-er, but yeah it doesn't have as much an effect as April and early May does.
comment in response to post
Back to the cold and the rain. Although September is generally a lot nicer than April, granted.

I'd be interested to see month by month offensive stats by ballpark for esp the Mariners - my guess is that TMobile is horrible in April/May, average to good in June/July/August, and then bad again in September. Not enough of a stats guy to find these numbers, any insights?

I've posted on this before but in college (late 70's) going to dorm parties, kids (especially girls) could have a record player and 2 records in their dorm rooms - this and Carole King Tapestry. They could have more than 2, but always these!

Musk is worth orders of magnitude more than Trump, who is in debt to Elmo in multiple ways. How do you propose he “exiles” him?
comment in response to post
Of course given that none of his minions have security clearances etc there’s no chance that they’ll be compromised and open those servers to foreign actors, nah, that’ll never happen, right?

Man for a minute I thought you were talking about Colfax, WA (pop. 179), saw all the comments and I was like woah that's a lot of ppl from Colfax on here!

1969 - the one year of the Seattle Pilots. My memories are far more of the excitement of bringing MLB to Seattle and not of losing it. I was 13, went to a couple of games (which was a big thrill!), and was all about Ray Oyler, Tommy Harper, Jim Bouton, and Mike Hegan (I have his bat from Bat Day!)

I've started a new habit of rewatching the previous episode immediately before watching the latest one - gives me a bigger dose of Severance each week, refreshes my memory, and allows for catching some tidbits I missed the first time!

Maybe some trickery to force Houston to overpay for Bregman and go over the salary cap? (I've thought all along that bringing Polanco back at something less than $12M would be worth a shot - like him at 3B far more than any of our other options atm)

The best is when smoking is not allowed but managers try to sneak a puff anyway!
comment in response to post
Some, possibly most of this is due to the ballpark, but you can't hit doubles if you strike out all the time. The Mariners have had bad offenses the past four years. Teoscar and Winker may be examples of ballpark factors, but Wong, Polanco (injury?), Frazier, etc. were just not good.

How great would it be if instead of the expected 10%, 90% or more of federal workers took up this offer - a paid mass walkout!
comment in response to post
Instead of rushing to rescind the OMB order, Dems should slow play it - far more ppl in red states are going to be affected than in blue ones. Let Kentucky etc twist in the wind for a while, all the while loudly blaming Trump.

Rebuilding doesn't fix the marine layer / cold weather, and this article glosses over how crappy our offense has been the past few years. Build the team for the park, keep an emphasis on pitching and rebuild an emphasis on defense - and (gasp) spend on offense and we'll (continue to be) competitive

I saw Celtic Frost and Voi Vod at the Moore in Seattle in 1986 - wasn't really a headbanger but it was a fun show!

If that was just a receiver, and not contested, that's an incomplete pass 10 out of 10 times - don't get that replay call at all

After all the polar ice cap melts, our enemies the Russians (you know, the ones we're going to give carte blanche to in Ukraine) will attack us from the north. Also, lots of rare earth minerals in Greenland for when the tariffs on China don't work!

Hillary ran (at the end) on "Trump is awful" and lost. So did Kamala. Saying he's bad is saying "you voted for Trump, you're bad too." Instead, the message should be a) Fox News is lying to you, here's proof (on Fox News, if possible), b) Dems are the party of the working man, Rs serve billionaires

The avg weight of a Cybertruck is about 6800 lbs, same as a new Ford F250. I haven't heard that ppl are flipping off all trucks (probably afraid they'd get shot), or Teslas, either. I'm very anti Elon, but don't understand the cybertruck hate over other Elon autos and/or other large vehicles.

I read that the Dodgers etc are required to bank the money at the beginning of the contract (to ensure that the money is there to pay out in 20 yrs etc), but by doing that, aren't the Dodgers etc making out like bandits on interest vs paying out immediately?

Mariners didn't sign Sasaki (snowballs chance in hell they could have) but they did sign 16 int'l players *plus* still have enough signing money to trade some away. But this FO has no idea what it's doing yadda yadda
