Green Day is the yacht rock of punk. I will not be taking questions at this time.

Everyone who ever got funding through NIAID should be aware of this bill and start sending messages to their US legislators. The bill intends to dissolve NIAID. This is Project 2025 www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

The next step in trying to dismantle Infectious Diseases research - dismantle @niaidnews.bsky.social - should surprise no one that this a R-led proposal. An unmitigated disaster for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pathogens that affect everyone in the US www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

For all you who continually whine “I’m not racist, I just think we need to have standards,” this is absorb this.No Black man could become head of the Joint Chiefs without meeting the standard. What they want is to harden a system of affirmative action for white guys. They what their grandfathers had.

“But the long-term costs will be measured in decades. The degree to which we have failed not merely ourselves but also our children and grandchildren is breathtaking.” www.theverge.com/elon-musk/61...

For the last year I’ve been beta testing Foto, a new photo sharing platform (no ads! No algorithm! Just photos!), and today it’s finally available to the public. Would love for all the bsky #photography folks to give it a shot! the.fotoapp.co/k.lannert

In the last few days of Janet Yellen’s Treasury, my amazing team at the Office of Economic Policy published a retrospective on the U.S. recovery that unified much of our earlier work. But the Trump Treasury purged it. Here’s a Wayback Machine link: web.archive.org/web/20250117...

They have the votes to impeach and convict him So they are not helpless They are complicit

REMINDER: The single biggest driver of our national debt since 2001 has been **Republican** tax cuts.

“We’re fucked.” New @nature.com, @maxkozlov.bsky.social reports on how the Trump admin is exploiting a ‘loophole’ to maintain its freeze on NIH funding despite legal challenges. 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

It was great to join @uaw4121.bsky.social at UW today to fight back against NIH cuts. Groundbreaking research that could lead to lifesaving cures will be lost if these cuts go into effect. This will hurt EVERYONE, in blue districts and red — and we’ll keep standing up to protect health care.

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

Today, at 42, I learned how to read a windsock

Hi, hello. In order to grasp the significance of Trump crowning himself a King, you have to understand that he is literally carrying out a plan crafted by Curtis Yarvin, a right wing extremist, to overthrow democracy and replace it with dictatorial rule by a monarch-CEO.

Great news, you’ve collected enough plastics in your body to start forming an exoskeleton. The universe will always bend toward crab.

"We didn’t become the greatest shirtwaist factory in the world by resting on our laurels. That’s why we’ve brought in a new efficiency czar, Noel Skum, whose job is to cut unnecessary spending and roll back overly restrictive safety regulations." www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/tha...

A lot of locals were very surprised to get the notice from the senior center that they just lost a huge chunk of their meals on wheels funding. As this shit starts hitting people closer to home it’s going to be pretty radicalizing! I had a lot of raging grannies (complimentary) blowing up my phone.

A large portion of grants awarded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health cannot be funded for the foreseeable future because of an indefinite hold on submissions to the Federal Register, according to an email reviewed by The Transmitter. By @avaskham.bsky.social bit.ly/3X8ngz8

Our group has been hard at work to release a new tool: The Data Rescue Tracker. The tool aims to provide a consolidated overview of who is downloading which dataset from which government websites. Please share! www.datarescueproject.org/data-rescue-...

Pretty sad. Just got the email that CZI is canceling the second round of Diversity Leadership Awards. Private industry will definitely not fill the hole that NIH and NSF are leaving. 😢💔

It's not doomscrolling, it's just artisanal nightmare farming

NIH Study Section Survey. Results so far: All good 🤞: 2 Scheduled per SRO despite no FedReg: 12 Canceled at last minute: 2 Also: NIGMS council rescheduled for April 17. Will update if you DM or respond to 🧵

Want to go visit the national parks this year? Sorry. The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

The experiment I have planned for March 7th will have taken six weeks of work to get to. I’m not saying I can’t cancel it, but it will set me back at least a week, at most six weeks. “A day” of wcience can mean weeks or months of work.

Begging scientists opining on this to do a little bit of studying

Assessing the functionality of over 4,000 genome variants for their role in cancer, with prominence of impact for those related to the immune system and chronic inflammation www.nature.com/articles/s41...

You know what the mid-20th century descent into facism did not have? Climate change. Do you know what is great at creating a facism positive feedback loop? Climate-linked disasters. Don't mind me I'll be learning how to distill my own liquor for when I can't afford booze or sobriety.

Scientists and journalists need to figure out right quick how to explain to the average person how a massive change in research indirects will impact the medical care they and their children get (eg at the local children’s hospital), the education their children will get, the price of tuition, etc.

if you work for the IRS, i’d like to chat. message me on signal at marisakabas.04

We’re experiencing perhaps the worst flu season in 25 years, with severe cases also rising, and young children and seniors faring the worst. One in six of all ER visits in the 0-17 age groups are now for influenza. www.cdc.gov/fluview/surv... h/t @cmyeaton.bsky.social

If this reporting stands up (and it appears confirmed by multiple sources): devastating. The EIS is the front-line SWAT team of disease detection in the US and globally, and also the training ground for new generations of public health workers. No EIS, no boots on the ground for outbreaks. ->
