This video is important. It's not important for the reasons I thought it was based on the title alone. This is about mental health, and women's health, along with public safety. It's worth a watch for anyone who has ever been on a plane. Thanks @xylafoxlin.bsky.social youtu.be/aj0H8oVS7qg?...

I'm calling on TEAM to return a maximum donation from MLA Dallas Brodie. They should reject donations from someone who has mocked residential school survivors. www.onecityvancouver.ca/dallas_brodie

In one of his last acts as prime minister, Trudeau announced new funding for child care across the country. This action is meaningful to an association like ours that offers these services. BC gets $5.3 billion. #childcare www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

It’s the time of year to sign up to a CSA! Opting for a titch closer to home, as lovely as our Winter CSA has been since November. Any other Metro Vancouver folks looking for a farm to support, Skipper Otto helpfully compiled a list: https://skipperotto.com/support-local-csas-in-metro-vancouver/

you’re fired. wait you’re rehired. email us a list of things you’ve done today wait forget it you’re fired again. come back your job was important. you’re fired. or hired. come in to the office. wait the office has no computers go home. we are the department of government efficiency.

“Freedom from” things is often vastly more complicated to bring about, than “freedom to” engage in or be things. There’s a balance to be had. We need both categories of freedoms. Things from each category are not interchangeable with things in the other. (with apologies to Amartya Sen)

Now is not the time to fear deficits! BC's provincial debt remains entirely manageable. In this era of profound, externally-driven economic uncertainty, BC needs new supporting investments in non-market housing, hospitals, schools, child care centres, transit not a "maintenance budget". #BCBudget

I wanted a frame of reference and consulted Wikipedia on this topic. The three buildings in downtown Vancouver that are closest in height to that tree are TD Tower (127m) and Capitol Residences (126m). The tree was 10m shorter than Telus Gardens and 5m taller than Woodwards.

One of the things I’ve come to appreciate being with privacy folks this week is how unique Signal is at this moment. I know it’s maybe a cliche at this point, but it needs to be said.

It was an in-the-office day, which means yet one more chance to wear some new earrings. (And why yes, I did get a compliment on them.)

And on a serious note, we should all be looking to Elections Canada to find out how they are strengthening the validity of the upcoming federal election. Let's not think it can't be messed with. Instead, let's prepare for it and ensure a free and fair election.

With news about local newspapers being shuttered, “journalis[m] with investigative or accountability stories” will IMHO soon be done by “anyone who can say what’s happening and why it might not be a good thing.” So, if you’re a person that “cares” about “things”, better level up that headshot game!

I find myself deeply nostalgic for my 20 year old Communication degree suddenly. All the topics are coming to a head - Canadian ownership of communication onfrastructure; media as nation-identity building; critical media literacy, misinformation and structuring effects of communication methods.

It’s a silent public space travesty that one of the best spaces my rent / property taxes I have ever paid for, the central branch of the Vancouver Public Library, has an amazing gathering space that closes at the same time on a weekend as the Vitamin Supplement store down the street (6pm).

If you need to reset, reset. If you need to start over, start over. The "sunk cost fallacy" is absolute poison for trauma recovery. The world is full of people who are in their 2nd, 3rd, & 4th acts. Don't stay in the wrong room because you happened to walk in the wrong door.

I had a very awkward moment at an event yesterday when Ashley MacIsaac’s Sleepy Maggie came on the music system and I was the only one who knew anything _at all_ about it. I wept for CanCon.

Remember, if you see a business that uses Shopify, instead of pressing "add to cart" press "Feedback" and say "I don't support Shopify". thelogic.co/news/exclusi...

Didn’t get to see this in person, but I do love a good visual representation of paddling together. 🛶

Unrelatedly, it turns out I’m having a Berenstain Bears-esque moment. I will type “Statcan” in the URL because I must to get what I want, but given the full name is StatisticS Canada, my mouth will likely continue to keep saying “Stats Can”.

Today StatsCan taught me a new term: “sandwich caregivers”, referring to those who are caring for multiple people in their lives, who are typically in different generations. The term originates in the common situation of being “sandwiched” btwn caring for children and a grandparent simultaneously.

"Maybe, to put it more simply: we are living in symbol collapse, in which everything is both literal and symbolic, in equal measure. The planes falling from the sky are symbols of a failed regime, but also…they are literal planes falling from the sky. It is endlessly recursive." - Branton Taylor
