This shit freaks people out. Keep talking about it.

really interesting A Conversation with Jim Chanos open.substack.com/pub/paulkrug...

FIRED FEDERAL WORKER TO NBC: “I was a Trump supporter. He’s coming in with a wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no apparent reason.”

friendly reminder that the only roman part of the roman salute was that it was depicted in the painting the oath of the horatii by jacque-louis david in 1784 it has no other connection to romans the horatii are fictional it's a nazi salute

"I absolutely in no way meant to allude to Hitler or Nazis, and ' disgraceful that you would attempt to smear me in such a way. As everyone knows, I am a lifelong devotee of French neoclassicism and absolutely stan our sweet paintbrush prince JLD for all time."

Spotted this today. Hadn’t seen this flag before.

This is an act of aggression.

Helping Ukraine has been simultaneously the morally correct thing to do AND in our objective national interest AND something we can do (and have done) effectively. An exceedingly rare trifecta and it has completely broken the brains of cynical people who assume there simply must be a catch or angle

I’m sure people are going to trot out a host of bad faith arguments for the firings, but “historically, presidents do whatever they want” does not hold up

My thoughts on last nights firings

No doubt last night’s purge reflects racism and misogyny. But those wrongs are just a cover for the far more serious evils and dangers that exist here.

President Trump has said Social Security “will not be touched.” But the DOGE team’s first wave of actions — initiating the elimination of 41 jobs and the closing of at least 10 local offices, so far — worries advocates about what might come next.

“You’re willing to risk our entire network to a 17-year-old? Are you for real right now?” That teen is "Big Balls" Corisitine, the recording is from 2022, and the voice is from a CEO worried about him as a security risk. Now Musk has him snooping in your personal data www.cnn.com/2025/02/21/p...

I missed this basassery yesterday. h/t @hcrichardson.bsky.social . www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

@sulliview.bsky.social @bgrueskin.bsky.social You're both on this list. bsky.app/profile/did:...

And yet The Atlantic today publishes a gossipy piece on how shocked the top officers are by the purge, also explicitly promised in Hegseth’s book of last spring.

As the Kremlin apparently pushes for new elections in Ukraine, remember former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, poisoned with dioxin when he ran against the pro-Russian candidate in 2004.

Some things to know about General Brown: - 41 years of military service - F16 fighter pilot and instructor with 3000 flight hours, 130 in combat - Master’s in aeronautical science - son of a U.S. Army colonel and Vietnam veteran - grandson of a WW2 veteran

Me: You guys are being really sexist in your attacks on Bondi, rather than focusing on the real problems with her. Response (now blocked): You're just a karen.

Juuuuuust waiting for this to trickle down to college campuses and nerds who can't afford bodyguards.

Local tv newsman shows nationals how to report

dem messaging: "have you considered that dictatorship won't bring down the price of eggs?" gop messaging: "THE DEMOCRATS HATE YOU AND WANT YOU TO DIE"

Most unsettling thing about the Chair of the Joint Chiefs nominee—besides a political purge opening the spot—is not that he lacks the legal requirements. He’s not far off. It’s that Trump reportedly picked him because he said beating ISIS would be quick and easy. Feeds Trump’s delusions about force.

WaPo’s use of “unusual” further obscures the blunt racism of the white 3-star’s elevation. “Unusual” is a raised eyebrow; more accurately, this never happens. Until now. To replace a 4-star Black general w/ an undistinguished white 3-star ass-kisser.

Norms & duct tape, folks. For decades, these were the only things preventing the president from acting like a Mad King or a fascist. We are learning that, in the absence of two pro-democracy parties, our laws, institutions, & the Constitution are not fit for purpose, & we’re all out of norms & tape.

"the poll shows that majorities oppose cutting taxes on corporations. It finds that 63 percent say their top priority for tax policy is helping 'working-class families,' versus one percent—no, really, one percent—who say it’s helping corporations and the wealthiest Americans."

Tennessee just passed a law that allows criminal charges vs local officials who vote for a sanctuary policy. Florida just passed a law empowering DeSantis to remove elected local officials who don't obey ICE. And: DOJ is threatening prosecution against a NY sheriff who didn't comply with ICE.

Musk took over the US government with graft and is using it—in combination with his space launch firm—to exploit an allied country that’s suffering under Russian invasion for its mineral rights. The scheme is so imperiously evil I feel like audiences wouldn’t find it believable in a Bond villain.

Norms and duct tape. It’s all that’s held the imperial presidency back from full-blown dictatorship, & we’ve shredded all of the norms & the last rolls of tape.

So DOGE's 'wall of receipts' is riddled with errors, falsehoods and distortions. big shock. about what you'd expect from 6 tech bros dragged over from the strip club www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

Been talking to a formerly-MAGA cousin who is absolutely distraught. Trump 16 & 20, didn't vote in 24. She works in finance. Lives in the Dallas suburbs. Texted me today to ask why people aren't in the streets demanding impeachment. Good reminder that no one is more zealous than a convert...

A pundit tried to argue with @jamellebouie.net just yesterday that Trump isn’t trying to resegregate the bureaucracy. But this stuff would make Woodrow Wilson proud.
