People who are still writing stately essays about how 'fascism has arrived at our doorstep’: My dudes, autocracy rode down the escalator a decade ago. We get it, we've all read our Hannah Arendt. Hit the streets with the rest of us or find another way to make yourselves useful. The ship has sailed.

This was a great story. This WH administration sucks at every level. As a former band kid, I applaud these HS stars and the retired military musicians who stepped up so they could perform together.

WATCH: Senator Merkley and other Dems say the anger towards Dems that caved is justified. Senator @johnfetterman.com , on the other hand: “What’s fighting? What does that mean?”

There’s nothing elitist about college or university. We should reject that idea | Carlo Invernizzi-Accetti

The FBI is trying to criminalize Habitat for Humanity for receiving climate grants from the EPA. Yes, the nonprofit that builds houses for low-income people. This clearly demonstrates just how absurd and extreme the Trump regime has become. It's targeted harassment.

1. What you see here is clearest illustration why things are so messed up and why it cannot get any better until this asymmetry is addressed. Put simply: the right-wing has narrative dominance. My org @mmfa.bsky.social did this study and has been sounding this alarm for years. Some thoughts...

Mike has been a friend of mine since we were young reporters at the @washingtonpost.com in the 1980s. He brims with talent, integrity and commitment to the truth. This is exactly what I expected and he had hoped he could stave off, which is a trash move by trash people. Throw them out.

Worth reading in its entirety

Volunteers recreated the pre-Trump CDC website: restoredcdc.org/www.cdc.gov/

Breaking "the government" and replacing the "deep state" civil servants with AI bots programmed by 20-something right wing Elon fanboys may sound like a great idea until it's time to eat an egg or a chicken sandwich without fear of getting sick, or deal with a hurricane or get on an airplane.

When someone says “why isn’t anyone DOING anything,” it sometimes seems to me that they’re looking for a superheroic action that saves the day rather than the kind of steady, human-scale work that actually is happening and could use your help if you have some time

the fucking enforcement arm of the federal government is launching a war on integration an effort to push tens of millions of americans to the bottom of an arbitrary hierarchy of value and yeah, it pisses me off to see nominal allies say “oh yeah maybe they have a point”

Happy Black History Month, and yeah, we're still doing that.

the definition of a “competent government” is “one you don’t have to think about all the time”

Neither of these New York Times homepage headlines informs us that Trump’s claim was bogus when he blamed diversity hiring as a cause of the DC air disaster. Both of the stories do indeed debunk it. But more people read headlines than read stories. NYT consistently goes vague on its homepage.

There is indeed a Christian voice of misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and bigotry that has the megaphone and the platform right now and we refuse to let it speak for us. johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/a-statemen...

One thing I’m very thankful for as head toward Trump’s inauguration is that Bluesky exists It’s so important to have a place to communicate that Musk and Zuckerberg do not control

one thing i’m stuck on is this idea that “masculine” energy means license to act like a chud in public, as opposed to more traditional notions of public masculinity, such as those that put a premium on the performance of integrity, honesty, honor and generosity.

Who says I don’t have hidden talent 💅🏼

We need positive forms of political opposition in the United States. The People's Cabinet would offer new ideas, new voices, and new forms of action. snyder.substack.com/p/an-alterna...

"California paid in a lot more [to the federal government] than it got back — $83 billion in total. So did Washington state and much of the Northeast. Most red states were in the reverse position, getting much more from DC than they paid in return."

It’s also not lost on me that most of the popular resisters are white folks who were Republicans in 2015 who are making money hand over fist a decade later from other primarily white folks with their “hey get a load of this shit Trump did” podcasts and newsletters.

Four years since my son wrote the best opening to a mystery novel ever written.

My thoughts exactly. NYT grabbing the low bar, as usual. Here we go again…

The power of the muskrat money

Recently took a peek at Twitter and the disinformation is getting substantially more dangerous. Someone could get killed. The tactics of constantly repeating outright lies, targeting specific people, repurposing years-old footage and presenting them as new is getting to another level. It’s scary.

“We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist” James Baldwin

Billionaires have more money than they could ever need but never enough to fill the holes in their souls. They would send every last one of you into an early grave if it meant paying one cent less in taxes.

🫰 🫰 🫰 Go Charlie!

This is... actually a fairly reasonable takeaway from this year.

every day I understand a little more why Arya Stark kept that list

If you’re afraid that books might change someone’s thinking, you’re not afraid of books, you’re afraid of thinking.
