I'm working on a sci-fi netpunk biopunk mildly horror-y novel called Epoch. I also work on other things sometimes! Also I have two cats and they’re cooler than 99% of people. Pretty sure that’s how it works!!

I really wanna see what they’d write for hitler or kim jong-il. I bet it would be SUPER flattering.

Incidentally that watch is worth more than the lives of a TON of folk who can’t afford life-saving healthcare or medication.

It’s also good to remember the source of that feedback! Not everyone has the same perspective / experiences and those can definitely impact their feedback, which is good to know for our perspective as writers but not always indicative of a need for change!

The mere existence of AI devalues people’s hard work even if said work isn’t commercially viable. I’ve seen people on AO3 pump out tens of thousands of words, like 40-50k an upload once every couple months. Sure it’s fanfic so the quality is questionable— but some people really do write like that!

That’s so true. Though to be fair people do inflate their follower count with bots. IMO the idea is to inflate your count to a certain amount, get some minor engagement and then sell the account. IMO don’t compare yourself to stuff like that cuz oh boy is it disheartening!! 🫠

I just think it’s important to take the source of feedback into consideration so we can stay true to what we want to express; sometimes uncomfy themes are the most authentic and deserve the spotlight, even if it alienates a fraction of a fraction of the people who pick up our stuff. In my opinion!!!

100% understand re: tone. After all, a person who beta reads your stuff knows what to expect thematically! But for example, white pals / fellow creators have given me insight about what they found uncomfy re: race in my writing before. I’ve absolutely done the same, and without meaning to!

I feel like a person’s comfort with queer media is on them. Plenty of straight media makes me uncomfortable given the themes, but I still consume it because it’s still good. Some feedback is meant to be tossed out and ‘i’m uncomfortable with queer experiences’ is (imo) one of ‘em!
