Disobedience is to dare to interrupt, talk back, raise your voice, and not observe the dress code of a party that’s not worth respect and is there to humiliate you. Ideally all at once.

The passage in Matt Kirschenbaum's brilliant lecture hit closest to home for me: "part of what has defined the last few weeks is the sense of real nausea I feel every time I refresh my feeds, the pit of my stomach dropping even as a new apportionment of horror is pushed to the top of my scroll."

UBC Arts colleagues! Nominations for Faculty Association Executive Committee members are closing tomorrow. It would be nice to have more Arts representation. I've been on the exec and am happy to talk generally about my experience. PDF form: www.facultyassociation.ubc.ca/wp-content/u....

"Shameful" as a descriptor for our era is losing its impact, but:

Congratulations, USA! You have brought down the transatlantic alliance. How are egg prices?

Really interesting interactive tool--also disturbing results.

My university has created a sexual misconduct training that all employees are required to complete. It is voiced by an AI, completely-artificial-sounding voice. 😐

New issue of German Studies Review has a diminutive special section I edited, “Remediating the Third Reich,” with fantastic essays by Mary Hennessy (on the 1943 film GROßSTADTMELODIE) and Brook Henkel (on Fassbinder’s WORLD ON A WIRE) muse.jhu.edu/issue/54291

Horrifying Canadian higher ed news: York University, one of the country’s major R1s, is apparently suspending admission to a number of key programs (including GWS, languages, classics, and enviro biology)—very likely auguring cuts. This appears to be straight out of the West Virginia playbook.

Quite an exchange here between Judge Reyes and DOJ attorney on how "pronoun usage" affects military readiness.

I assume someone has already made the obvious comparison.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday signaled that he was moving ahead with U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to transfer the Palestinian population out of Gaza, calling it “the only viable plan to enable a different future” for the region.

For God’s sake thrust him down stairs. I cannot endure such a fustian rascal.

Neither the mainstream press nor our political system seem to have digested the fact that the U.S. president is trying to illegally annex a NATO ally using economic coercion.

Again, this isn't funny & it would have immediately ended any previous presidency in the post-WWII era. It's a direct violation of our NATO & UN obligations & obscene in a moment where 🇷🇺 is occupying 20% of 🇺🇦 & denying the sovereignty of another country. bsky.app/profile/mcop...

Prophetic words from a famous leftist.

Summing up possible US efforts to “absorb” Canada. Really disturbing stuff. As an American-Canadian, I wonder if Americans broadly would even care.
