i know people say autism can't be cured because it's not a disease but i think we should try curing it by giving every autistic person five million dollars in cash

Working with the windows open & the amount of people who use their daily walk to call people & have intense conversations is truly astonishing. This morning alone I've heard: 'I'm at my limit - at my absolute limit!' & 'I can't answer these questions for you, man. You gotta think for yourself.'

This is high art

Nothing that's vital to society should be a for-profit business. Capitalism can be trusted with niceties, but never with necessities.

It's that magical time of year, booklovers. Better Reading's Top 100 is now open for voting (and you can go into the draw to win the top 100 books!) Please consider supporting my bookarinos... www.betterreading.com.au/news/vote-no...

Very sorry to hear of Kerry Greenwood’s passing. I wrote about her Adelaide connections and her fearless class consciousness a while back: sydneyreviewofbooks.com/reviews/tale...

My subconscious decided to invent TEMUAir during last night's dreams. Unsurprisingly basic but actually efficient in getting passengers around the world with a door-to-door service.

Please stop saying "During COVID." People are still dying from this virus. People are still becoming disabled from it and contracting Long COVID. People are still not able to access the world and healthcare safely because of this virus. During COVID is right now.

ChatGPT consumes so much water and energy each week that it could power entire countries for YEARS and folk act like you told them to kill their selves cause you want them to write their own emails and not to steal art. 😂

Unexpected fight-or-flight response to a cafe's online menu, which looked like it hadn't been updated (except for the prices) since 2004.

They've rebooted superman again. ABC iview currently has the four 80s Superman movies to stream if July feels too far away for you.

I'll take any excuse to post the Pokemons dancing to Orinoco Flow again.

Having just had this conversation with my kid's school, I'm glad there's actual research so I can tell them 'told you so' next time they try to pull that bullshit.

Kid reports that the only activity they did today for AAD was to write a letter about the ways they'd be more inclusive of Autistic people. ie, they wrote a letter to themself. They missed out on other activities because they weren't explained in an inclusive way & my kid didn't know what to do.

This review! "...a touch of original genius. In this novel, Prak hits all the right buttons. This story will keep you enthralled from the first word to the last" www.artshub.com.au/news/reviews... #BarrenCape

The kid's school is selling sensory toys, cupcakes and jellies to raise money for a good charity on Autism Acceptance Day. Awesome! The only people who donated goods are the (probably Autistic) parents of the Autistic students, and the teachers who work with those students. Woo! Acceptance!

The 7yo told me they think they're lucky because they get Christmas and their birthday *and* Autism Acceptance Day. I suppose Autism Acceptance Day is a bit like Christmas in that kids get to believe in something nice happening (Santa visiting/Autism acceptance) but grownups know neither exist.

*chef's kiss*

#AutismAcceptanceMonth starts tomorrow. Please don't give to Autism Speaks; their $$ rarely supports autistic people/families, and their 'awareness' work portrays autistic people as burdens, not humans. From @autisticadvocacy.org, a good org to support instead. autisticadvocacy.org/considerthef...

The 7yo has developed an interest in The Amazing World of Gumball. I have developed an interest in the parents' choice of names for their children: Gumball, Darwin and Anaïs. Namely, how do you go from Gumball to Anaïs?

Me: *stands on one leg* My flamenco teacher: No.

Wish every single one of the Autism Parents who sent me feral messages about The Imperfects’ open letter had read Sinclair’s work

Wonder how many people I'd offend at the kid's school if I asked if 'multiculturalism' included Autistic culture.

Can you even have a book that's ghost written twice?

For the longest time, I thought I'd seen Blade Runner. Then I decided to 'rewatch' it. That's when I realised I'd seen Total Recall and just decided it was Blade Runner.

Important lemon pig update: the penny has dropped and my dude is pretty horrified about it

I swear. Writing is the only discipline where we make people feel like failures for practising. How many songs does a violinist learn that never wind up in recital? How many studies do painters do? Acting exercises. Tennis for fun. You're allowed to write without the intention of publishing.

Today I was prohibited from entering a building at my own place of work despite clearly identifying myself as staff with my staff ID — just because I was wearing a kuffiyeh, as I regularly do, as is my entitlement as a Palestinian person. If it was a kippah it would be front page news.

Look, self care is not reading this beyond the headline, but I'm gonna comment on it anyway. [ahem] Fuck off. Fun and cozy are Important™️ too, even without Joykill Brand TraumaPain®️

Update: I quit.

Jeffrey Goldberg thinking he was being pranked and then realizing he was actually just in the war plans group chat is such a good microcosm of how it feels to be alive right now, everything seems fake until you realize it’s actually real and incredibly stupid

This has me cackling out loud in my office

I now have a meeting with the principal to discuss updating the letter and resending it.

The note regarding this event has come home from school. There's a puzzle piece on it.

Someone pointed out that influencers use serotonin/dopamine/cortisol/oxytocin like they’re the four humors and now I can’t stop seeing it

Wow. Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum officially recognizes Palestine as a state. Here she welcomes Palestinian ambassador Nadya Rasheed. Sheinbaum is Jewish, supports Palestinian self-determination, & unapologetically condemns Netanyahu's attacks on Gaza. Historic & inspiring leadership. ❤️✊🏽

Artists feel pressured to make new art too quickly at the moment. Normalise artists fucking disappearing for months. Just walk off into the woods for a year and come back with a single sketch. It’s good for you

Confirmation this morning that my kid's school is doing a Light it up Blue fundraiser for Autism Acceptance Day. Gonna be an interesting P&C meeting on Monday night.

Love to see winners in the #vplas. Hate to think of them paying tax on their prizes while foreign-owned salmon and fossil fuel companies get off tax-free.

Imagine if the argument were 'We should spend $11 billion a year on dental health because people deserve to have healthy teeth' rather than 'because it'll save us money and make people more productive'. People aren't people any more - we're resources to be mined until we die.

Only a few weeks left to run on my PhD reader survey of fiction about Jews. All responses, all opinions, hugely valued. And it's completely anonymous, so you can say what you really feel. Thank you! limesurvey.mq.edu.au/index.php/48...

Finally got a new gate installed after our old one was destroyed by Sydney's January storms. Yay! Now I have to find a way to pay for it. Boo! Do you need your manuscript read or edited? I love to help authors fine-tune their manuscripts and I'm available from April. Get in touch: kyliemmason.com
