A question I've been noodling on is if health influencers are as big of a thing in other developed countries with universal health care systems...or if it's just that the US' expensive, patchwork system leaves people uniquely vulnerable to this stuff.
No we have them a lot too in Europe. "Alternative" health advice makes money, and even when you can afford healthcare, doctors often do not have answers or things just cannot be cured. And we all collectively feel like shit so people are drawn to easy bullshit solutions
Think someone said here that it's only a matter of time before some moron TikTok influencer brings back bloodletting as 'a trad cure that Big Pharma doesn't want you to know about!'
This is 100% true. People love memorising 3-4 over simplified mechanistic narratives and imbuing them with astrological power.
I like how people are just like, yeah god invented a bad stress hormone called cortisol and it's just there to fuck you up and and make everything worse and that's that.
To be fair, that constructive rest pose is a great way to let your psoas do its thing (if you let it). I've reached a point where I can shudder and shake (almost violently at times) pretty much on demand and it really helps release tension.
As a neuroscientist, YES, you nailed it 😂 we've progressed so far in the field, but on a social level not much further than just updating some labels (usually no more useful than using the humors).
Pardon me for being judgemental, just feeling a bit choleric this morning.
lol yes, also many demonise "chemicals" as if all chemicals— without exception—are inherently and irrevocably toxic... do they seriously not get that H₂O isn't just "a cute name for water" like c'mon 🤦🏻♀️

I get that people enjoy looking at attractive people. But if you take that away, there’s really nothing left.
