For some reason I watched Devil in Ohio, and... the length needed to be cut down by at least half.

Whoever decided that the search in slack should default to "relevant" instead of "newest" can burn in hell

This plays in my head every time I hear a producer or executive make a light remark about a release where I put in the OT work to do the testing, and did the extra coordination work like functional engineering management (not my job!) to get everything done to make that release happen.

I try to set up an efficient day of work, setting up all of the requirements for everyone so no one is blocked and... I lose 4 hours on people waiting anyway and meetings and other unnecessary things. I feel like the guy from Krull who can't keep hold of the sands of time. It all just slips away.

Kynetyk Management Tip: There's an important line between "Don't just bring up problems, offer solutions" and "Do someone else's job for them"

Kynetyk Management Tip: If you notice that your team is "managing up" to you, try to be attentive to what's going on and why that's happening.

Me facing off with bugs in a release candidate that needs to be out in 2 days.

Oh my sweet jesus, is there anyone... anywhere... EVER who has been intrigued by a commercial for a professional productivity/tracking tool?

Kynetyk management tip: Cruelty is not strength, and it is not a sign of strength. It is weakness, and a sign of a fragile ego.

Morpheus describing perception of The Matrix is like being a tester perceiving a subtle bug on the periphery of awareness: “What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. (...) You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.”

Jira Release view Let's give 90% of the screen to the information sparse list of issues, and let's cram the information dense issue into a column on the right that can't be expanded ... It's been that way for a while, but this is one of those moments where that stupidity making me irrationally angry

There is something very satisfying about finally nailing down completely the behavior of a complex, slippery bastard of a bug.

When the engineer wants QA to look at something but doesn't explain what they changed that needs to be tested

Kynetyk management tip: If you're trying upper management to prioritize addressing an issue, present it to them with as few steps as possible to a financial impact. And remember that your time counts as financial impact.

Kynetyk Management Tip: If you can't acknowledge the difference between an explanation and an excuse... you'll never figure out why the problem happened.

Sheesh, I think over my career I'm averaging something like this about once per week.

Kynetyk Management Tip: Giving your team vague instructions and leaving it to them to figure things out is a great way to hurt morale.

Anyone have an opinion on if Master Splinter BE Hamato Yoshi, or not?
