cc: @Gavin Newsome It’s time to build a CDC & NIH in California with the folks who were fired from the feds. In fact, I think each blue state governor needs to scoop up these scientists, healthcare workers and laboratory workers asap. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social

We are nearing a precipice.

This is probably the most accurate take.

We got a Costco membership for the first time in our lives today. They asked why & I said because treat your workers well, you value diversity, & you didn’t cave in to authoritarian demands. He said: “We’ve been getting lots of folks saying that, thanks for joining.” Who needs a gallon of ketchup?

This is a big deal. The DOJ will no longer defend for cause removal protections for commissioners of agencies like the FTC, removing a barrier to the President firing minority commissioners at will

Wild times we live in. Tweet via 2018.

The Acting Solicitor General has notified Congress of DOJ's intent to ask #SCOTUS to overrule Humphrey's Executor—a major 1935 ruling upholding the independence of agencies like the FCC, FTC, NLRB, etc. fingfx.thomsonreuters.com/gfx/legaldoc... Because *less* independence is what we need...

Interesting: the State Department’s procurement forecast detailing a $400 million order for "armored Tesla" has now been edited to "armored electric vehicles." The document shows the edit was made tonight at 9:12 p.m. -- after it was highlighted in reports

True.

NEW: Shortly after Pam Bondi was sworn in Wednesday, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger asked her to drop the Department of Justice’s lawsuit challenging the state’s 2021 voter suppression law, S.B. 202. I warned you, Raffensperger is no hero. He is a GOP vote suppressor.

This is supremely fucked up. I mean, I read about this earlier, but to see it in writing is devastating.

Sen Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) letter to chair of Senate Judiciary Cmte, which is poised to vote on confirmation of Kash Patel: “We regret that you have rejected our efforts to inquire into the first-ever invocation of Fifth Amendment protection by a nominee seeking to lead the FBI”

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

RONALD REAGAN (1988): We should be aware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends, weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world—all while cynically waving the American flag.

An excellent resource for federal civil servants. www.civilservicestrong.org

You may not be on this list, but he’s coming for you next.

Here are the options on the table (which are not mutually exclusive): 1. House Dems bring articles of impeachment* 2. Senate Dems play constitutional hardball and obstruct everything 3. State AGs litigate (and prosecute) everything they can 4. Citizens march en mass

The USA has had two major plane crashes in the last 4 days. The USA had previously not suffered a major plane crash for 16 years. ‘DEI’ programs have existed for decades. So what was it that changed in the last 14 days or so to suddenly cause so many crashes?

A serious constitutional crisis is taking place in North Carolina where Republicans are trying to steal a state Supreme Court election by disenfranchising 60,000 voters AFTER the count and recount have showed the Democrat won. Please watch and share. www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5yW...

"Also in Russia, high-profile pundits closely aligned with the Kremlin have said Trump's rhetoric gives Moscow the green light to absorb sovereign states formerly under the control of the Soviet Union." thehill.com/policy/inter...

Should've been 9-0, but 5-4 because of course. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

genuinely chilling that there is a currently a *one vote* majority for the basic notion "Donald Trump can't just do literally anything he wants"

These extraordinary photos of the LA fires have been shared widely on social media, often without crediting the photographer. These are all the work of Ethan Swope, an LA-based photojournalist working for AP. You can follow his remarkable reporting here👇 www.instagram.com/ethanswopeph...

Great letter in today's Guardian. What sort of free speech is prevented by factchecking, Zuck?

NEW: The North Carolina Supreme Court issued an extended version of its order blocking the certification of a race for a seat on its own bench, which included extended, scathing dissents from Democratic Justice Anita Earls and Republican Justice Richard Dietz. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

60 years after the assassination of Malcolm X, a major lawsuit aims to prove the U.S. government played a role in his murder — and all eyes should be on the outcome
